We are doing this by developing a new generation of electrolytic process technology for making carbon neutral magnesium metal from seawater and brines. Job Description

  • Leading development of innovative organic solvent and electrolyte systems for conducting magnesium sulfate for electroplating of magnesium metal
  • Designing pilot plant scale processes to prove out key production processes including membranes which can selectively permeate magnesium sulfate and magnesium chloride
  • Designing experiments at pilot and bench scale to test hypotheses and answer key questions
  • Develop new process technologies internally and with external collaborators to protect novel technology through intellectual property
  • Supervising elemental analysis of lab samples, conducting QAQC on data collection, and analyzing experimental results to accelerate development of our technology
  • Contributing actively to a safety culture that puts physical wellbeing ahead of all other company priorities
  • Occasional travel to off-site locations where the company is developing commercial smelter operations

Ideal Background

  • PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or adjacent field
  • Experience designing, constructing, and operating pilot or commercial scale processes
  • Experience with inorganic chemistry, gas-phase chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, salt chemistry, molten salts, electrochemistry, electrochemical engineering, chlor-alkali, metallurgy, alloy technology, casting, or structural metals are all helpful
  • Understanding and experience in basic analytical chemistry such as calibrations, the use of analytical instruments like ICP-OES machines, and other inorganic analytical techniques
  • Creative and open-minded with the ability to rapidly learn about and think through complicated problems generating hypotheses for their resolution
  • Ability to work on a team to achieve audacious goals together
  • History of promoting company culture based on respect, care for the success of team members, and zeal for innovation with a demonstrated passion for mitigate the impacts of climate change
