About The Role

  • Oversee the design, fabrication, and commissioning of novel furnace process technologies for innovative molten salt processing for making metal .
  • Lead the design process through multiple stages including conceptual design through detailed design, construction and testing ; while coordinating technology partners , consultants, and team members .
  • P resent updates, decisions, and technical information to a range of stakeholders including management, our engineering team, and external parties in order to make the best possible decisions for building Magrathea ’s novel th ermal equipment.
  • Project manage and support in executing the creation and development of complex technical products including 3D CAD designs, specifications, drawings , and perform tolerance analyses .
  • Develop and implement evaluation plans at each step of the fabrication process for QAQC .
  • Perform thermal and structural simulations of new mechanical components and systems.
  • Produce and support the production of detailed construction and fabrication drawings to deliver to fabricators for on time delivery.
  • C oac h , direct , check , and drive continuous improvement in the work of other engineers on our team.

Requirements

  • Experience developing design, prototyping, construction, and operation of furnace process technology.
  • Experience in stakeholder management of coordinating internal and external technology partners.
  • Experience solving tough manufacturing problems in several of the following areas: structural design, thermal engineering, fluid dynamics, and product engineering.
  • Detailed component specifications with a focus on large machinery. Formal GD&T training preferred.
  • Deep knowledge and experience of sealing material connections at over 700ºC in the presence of corrosive molten salts and oxidizing gases for use cases such as heat treatment, metallurgy, energy, or other applications.
  • Design and construction of refractory composite systems.

Ideal Background

  • BS or MS in mechanical, materials, industrial, or chemical engineering with 10 years+ experience working with high temperature thermal systems, refractories, and molten materials.
  • Creative and open-minded with the ability to rapidly learn about and think through complicated problems generating hypotheses for their resolution.
  • Ability to work on a team to achieve audacious goals together.
  • History of promoting company culture based on respect, care for the success of team members, and zeal for innovation with a demonstrated passion for mitigate the impacts of climate change.

  • Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this position is $100,000 - $200,000 annually. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Our Director of People can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process.
