Malta Inc. is a young and dynamic company involved in the development of a novel and advanced energy storage technology. Malta's technology was developed by Google and leading international researchers, including a Nobel Laureate, and represents the state-of-the-art in utility-scale renewable energy storage. The company has completed multiple fundraising rounds and is growing rapidly. Malta's investors/partners are some of the largest and best-known tech and industrial companies in the world.

Malta's technology is a critical steppingstone for the transition from fossil power to green renewable energy resources. Malta is located in Cambridge, MA but operates globally with a range of international project partners, investors, and clients.

We are looking for a Control Systems Senior Engineer to develop control and diagnostic algorithms to manage a state-of-the-art electro-thermal grid-scale energy storage system. As a member of the Control Systems Development team, the Control Systems Senior Engineer will be responsible for both system control algorithms and controls hardware, necessary to support subsystem controls requirements and overall system control and performance. Working with both internal and external resources, the Control Systems Senior Engineer will validate system controllability through the development of regression tests, will ensure the Malta-developed control algorithms integrate into the physical hardware, including Target in the Loop (TiL) and Hardware in the Loop (HiL) testing. The Control Systems Engineer will utilize model-based design skills to help deliver a highly automated power plant that will enable increased levels of renewables presence and utilization in electricity grids globally. Specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • System and subsystem level control and diagnostic algorithm development, implementation, and validation
  • Development of automatic test methods for the systematic evaluation of the developed control and diagnostic algorithms
  • Requirements flowdown and other systems engineering activities (e.g., DFMEA) to ensure a holistic model-based design approach
  • Working directly with the modelling team to ensure that the process models used for the development and validation of the control system are accurate and otherwise appropriate for the use-cases
  • Development of control-oriented models for real-time or pseudo-real-time implementations to enable state estimation and operation optimization
  • Support the control (hardware) platform selection process
  • Work with key stakeholders to develop data logging requirements, commissioning strategies, and software constructs
  • Work with internal and external partners to enable closed-loop model-based engineering approaches to system design
  • Utilize field data to improve models and algorithms

Requirements:

  • Engineering Master or PhD preferred, in Industrial Automation&Controls, Electrical, Electronics, Robotics, Telecommunication or Computer Science from an accredited College or University
  • 15+ years of experience in an engineering position for control algorithm development and system engineering
  • Hands-on product development and launch experience;
  • Proficiency in MathWorks tools: MATLAB/Simulink is a must
  • Experience with software validation and verification tools and methods
