Mangrove Lithium, a Vancouver based company, has developed a breakthrough platform for the most cost-effective production of battery grade lithium hydroxide and carbonate from diverse input streams and assets. Mangrove’s modular solution can be scaled to any capacity and co-located with upstream lithium producers, battery recyclers, or battery manufacturers. The company has attracted funding from Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BDC Capital and BMW I Ventures. The Company has a highly experienced leadership team with a track record of successfully commercializing and deploying industrial technologies and is working towards the deployment of a first-of-a-kind commercial plant.

Position

Mangrove is seeking an exceptional individual to play a key role in their multidisciplinary engineering team. The Automation Engineer/Specialist will work with the engineering team to design, program, commission, and troubleshoot various PLC, HMI & SCADA control systems at Mangrove’s existing and future facilities. The Automation Engineer/Specialist will play a critical role in the development of a brand-new, cutting-edge lithium refining facility in BC’s lower mainland.

The ideal candidate will possess a diverse and well-rounded technical skill set, including strong knowledge of industrial electrical control systems, troubleshooting and familiarity with site and machine-level electrical drawings. A proven track record of successfully executing projects in a product development and technology commercialization environment is essential. The successful applicant will demonstrate their abilities through various examples across a full project lifecycle (Design, Develop, and Commission). This role is an on-site position based at our new facility in Delta.

Responsibilities

  • Support and participate in system commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting for process equipment, utilities, and packaged systems
  • Contribute to the site ownership for multiple PLC control systems and the site SCADA system, including long-term maintenance and improvement
  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLC systems, with a strong emphasis on Rockwell Automation platforms
  • Develop, maintain, and support the site SCADA system using Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform
  • Deploy system upgrades involving PLC logic, instrumentation, and networked devices
  • Work with EPCs, equipment vendors, and various contractors during commissioning and post-startup support
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, control strategy refinements, and future capital modifications
  • Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams, including training where required
  • Create and maintain automation-related documentation, drawings, standards, and procedures

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or related field, ideally registered with EGBC.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience designing control systems for industrial applications.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial network protocols and technologies, such as Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, Modbus/TCP, and OPC-UA.
  • Familiarity with VFDs, PID Loops, and a variety of Instrumentation.
  • Proficient interpreting and using P&IDs, datasheets, specifications.
  • Thrives in a changing, growing environment, patient and willing to mentor others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and customers.
  • Strong technical documentation writing skills.
  • Proficient with: Rockwell Software Suite (Studio 5000, RSLinx, View Designer), MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project)
  • Working knowledge of various HMI software.
  • Experience with Electrical Drafting software (AutoCAD, EPlan, etc.)
