About the Role
Mangrove is seeking an exceptional individual to play a key role in their multidisciplinary engineering team. The Hydrometallurgical Engineer will lead the design and optimization of hydrometallurgical processes for spodumene concentrate conversion to lithium chemicals (lithium hydroxide or lithium carbonate) projects. This role is based in Vancouver/Delta, BC.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership during feasibility studies, FEED, detailed engineering, commissioning, and ramp-up.
- Oversee selection, sizing, and operation of leaching, solid-liquid separation, impurity removal and associated equipment including owning the vendor relationship.
- Conduct lab-scale and pilot-scale test work for process development.
- Develop and validate mass and energy balances, heat transfer models, and process flow diagrams (PFDs/P&IDs).
- Analyze process data to improve efficiency, recovery, and energy consumption.
- Support integration between pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical, and electrochemical refining plant sections including recycle streams.
- Drive process efficiency improvements, including energy consumption reduction and heat recovery systems.
- Troubleshoot operational issues related to throughput, product quality, and equipment reliability.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical capability development.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Metallurgical, Mechanical, or a related field)
- 10-15 years of experience in hydrometallurgy, preferably in lithium processing.
- Registered Professional Engineer within Canada/US, or the ability to readily become one.
- Experience with designing complex flowsheets for hydrometallurgical operations, such as leaching, neutralization, mixing, filtration, separation, precipitation, acidification, and pH adjustment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and customers.
- Familiarity with process simulation software (SysCAD, Aspen) would be an asset.
- Knowledge of acid plants and electrochemical plants would be an asset.
