Company Overview
Each year, 2.5 trillion hours are spent on household chores. At Matic, we’re on a mission to recapture that lost time, and we’re doing it by revolutionizing home robotics.
Our first product, also called Matic, is a Wall-E-esque floor cleaning robot. We've built what amounts to "full self-driving in the home” with real-time 3D mapping, adaptive path-tracking, and a precise semantic understanding of the home. Our breakthroughs in spatial AI allow Matic to work reliably in real homes, using only RGB cameras and neural networks running on-device.
Privacy First
What happens in the home, stays in the home. Our robots are private by design, with all data processing performed by the robot itself, not in the cloud.
Our Approach
Before the iPhone, consumers adopted several distinct devices; cell phones, PDAs, and portable music players each served a particular need. We believe in a similar progression for home robotics, starting with single-purpose robots and building iteratively toward more complex capabilities over time.
Our Culture
Matic is a tight-knit and collaborative team, singularly focused on building products our customers will cherish. We're ultra-hardworking people committed to solving tough problems that save precious time and energy.
About the role
As a Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE), you will work at the intersection of R&D and production, translating product designs into robust, scalable manufacturing solutions. You will use CAD tools to design fixtures, tooling, and equipment, develop assembly processes, and optimize workflows for high-volume production.
If you’re passionate about great design, strong problem-solving, and getting the details right, we’d love to talk about how you can help us pioneer innovation in the home robotics space.
What You'll Do
Tooling & Equipment Design: Design and develop production fixtures, QC equipment, and specialized tooling to support assembly and testing on the manufacturing line.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product design, quality, and manufacturing teams to troubleshoot production issues and support new product launches.
Partner with vendors, suppliers, and contract manufacturers in a fast-moving startup environment.
FMEA & Root Cause Analysis: Monitor production issues, analyze yield data, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions to quickly recover the production line.
Prototype, fabricate, and iterate rapidly to mature concepts into robust, self-sustaining manufacturing solutions.
Perform component-level testing for performance, durability, reliability, and variability.
Technical Documentation: Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Collaborate with design teams to refine products for efficient, cost-effective, and scalable manufacturing.
What We Look For
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
2+ years of professional experience in mechanical design, tooling, or equipment development for high-volume manufacturing.
Proven ability to execute complex mechanical designs and bring them from concept to production.
Experience working on products that have shipped to customers.
Manufacturing Expertise: Strong understanding of CNC machining, injection molding, casting, welding, and mechanical assembly processes.
Analytical Skills: Experience with tolerance analysis, root cause analysis, and process optimization.
Proficiency in SolidWorks.
Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems, engineering change management, and quality management processes.
Experience with sensors, motors, or fluid systems is a plus.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment and willing to take ownership of ambiguous problems.
High level of maturity, accountability, and pride in delivering high-quality work.
We'd love to hear from you if...
You’re genuinely motivated to help teammates succeed.
You enjoy learning beyond your immediate area of expertise.
You love diagnosing and solving complex technical problems.
You’re excited to do meaningful, high-impact work.
