About Us
Moxion is a vertically integrated manufacturer of all-electric mobile power and energy storage solutions. We have developed commercial-scale, powerful, silent, and emissions-free mobile battery stations that are designed to replace traditional diesel generators in most applications today. We’re pioneering mobile energy storage technology, leveraging vertical integration and a software-enabled service model to deliver last-mile electrification for our customers and communities. The Moxion team is a passionate group of humans who care about the environment and disrupting the diesel economy. Come build the first distributed utility with us, propelling the biggest energy transformation of our lifetime.
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Power Systems Modeling Intern to join our team for a summer internship. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects involving the modeling of microgrids, assessing technical requirements, and evaluating the techno-economic viability of battery systems in a dynamic and evolving energy landscape.
As a Power Systems Modeling Intern, you will be responsible for creating detailed power models of microgrids. These models will play a crucial role in informing the technical requirements and assessing the techno-economic viability of battery systems within the context of microgrids. Your work will involve accounting for various factors, including user loads, diesel generators, distributed energy resources (DERs), and external elements such as fuel prices and electricity rates.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and refine power models for microgrid systems that include battery storage, user loads, diesel generators, and various DERs.
  • Conduct comprehensive techno-economic analyses to evaluate the viability and cost-effectiveness of battery systems in different microgrid scenarios.
  • Collaborate with the systems engineering and product teams to integrate your models into the design and planning of battery systems.
  • Analyze and interpret data related to user loads, generation sources, and grid conditions to refine and optimize power models.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and regulations related to energy storage, microgrids, and renewable energy technologies.
  • Assist in the development of reports and presentations to communicate modeling results and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with other team members and share insights to drive innovation in battery system design and implementation.

Skills to be successful:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems, energy engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in modeling and simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Python, PSCAD, PowerWorld, OpenDSS, ETAP, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of microgrid systems, distributed energy resources, and energy storage technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of techno-economic analysis and financial modeling.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with a strong sense of accountability and initiative.
  • A passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and the electric power industry.
