At Near Space Labs we design, build and operate a fleet of stratospheric robots to image the Earth. We launch our proprietary, balloon-based imaging robots to heights between 40,000 and 60,000 feet. From this vantage point, we capture petabytes of imagery for a variety of use cases.

We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will design, prototype, and test the next generation of stratospheric platforms.

Your responsibilities will be to

• Contribute to the mechanical design of our flight vehicle and its mechanisms, in every stage of the development process
• Iterate and improve on the design of current models
• Coordinate with electronics and software engineers regarding system interdependencies
• Build and test prototypes
• Manage suppliers
• Participate in test flights

Location

This is a position for EU nationals or work permit holders based in Barcelona. Remote work possible once a week.

Your Skills

• 4+ years of experience in mechanical design and prototyping.
• Masters degree in mechanical engineering
• Proficient in CAD software tools
• 3D printing with various materials and methods
• Design for CNC machining
• Experience in composite and lightweight materials
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and in a team.
• Knowledge of thermal and structural analysis is a plus.
