Neara is a high-growth, venture-backed Series B, tech company headquartered in Sydney, Australia. Recognised as one of the Times 100 Most Influential Companies of 2024, our vision is to change how the world operates, builds, and designs critical infrastructure. We work with 75% of the utilities in Australia and New Zealand and are rapidly expanding across the US and Europe. Our mission is to revolutionise the utilities industry with our 3D digital network model, enabling utilities to future-proof their infrastructure and navigate the clean energy transition.

We are seeking a Program Manager to join our ML team. As a Program Manager at Neara, you will be responsible for ownership and stewardship of data collection for the purposes of ML training and evaluation. Your primary tasks will include defining and iterating on the methods of capturing, cataloguing, QAing as well as making the process data driven to increase observability of the process.

This role will require you to investigate, address, and solve open-ended problems related to collection, cleaning, and scaling of said processes but also adaptability as the need to pivot is a constant in ML projects. You will create new classes of data in order to help drive model improvements, define collection techniques, oversee process updates for on and off-shore teams, train teams on collection and work with researchers to drive the production of rich datasets for model development and evaluation.

At Neara, you will be part of a team that values your ideas, supports your development, and celebrates your successes. If you are motivated and results-driven, we’d like to meet you.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Have an interest in machine learning and the needs of data from machine learning.

  • Have experience managing data labelling operations at scale across a globally distributed team

  • Enjoy getting into the weeds of data and forming bottom-up assessments on edge cases and quality deficiencies to make judgement calls.

  • Are comfortable using a combination of internal tooling, SQL, spreadsheets, and exhibit exceptional judgement in building repeatable processes.

  • Are deeply adaptable to projects in varying domains and complexities, and effectively reason about systems and processes for domains even beyond your core expertise.

  • Have an action-oriented and deeply curious mind, often leading you to become a power user of software and tools.

  • Excellent communication skills to bridge communication between different teams.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Business-wide ownership of the data collection, cleaning, QA and access across the org in support of the digitisation focus and in support of the focus of digitisation from various data sources.

  • Work with product and research to define the data classes and types (ontology) with a focus on importance to the business and value of the label to an ML model.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to start up new data collection projects by gathering requirements, writing instructions, defining success criteria, and training data gathering teams.

  • Think critically about the data collection to make the tradeoffs between the collection speed, cost and value to the ML training process.

  • Provide feedback to data gathering teams in order to increase throughput and quality of data collected.

  • Instrument and analyse the data collection tooling to identify bottlenecks and work with research and engineering to resolve these bottlenecks.

  • Product manage the creation, iteration, deployment, and training of software tools to accelerate data collection and QA

  • Work closely with product and research to plan timelines and capacity requirements on data gathering teams.

WHAT WE ARE OFFERING YOU

  • Competitive salary

  • Meaningful ESOP

  • Fully Flexible Work Environment. We have a fully stocked office (and impressive snack collection) in Redfern.
