Alpine Bio is a plant genetics company transforming plants into the world's most regenerative protein factories. With a fully developed end-to-end bio-manufacturing platform Alpine Bio is poised to usher in a new age of hyper efficient protein production. Our first proof of concept protein, Casein, is a -complex and unstructured dairy protein that gives cheese its stretch, melt, and much of its protein nutrients. We are beginning public tastings of our animal-free mozzarella via our brand Nobell Foods in 2025 and are quickly expanding into other high value proteins.

As a Greenhouse Facility Manager your top priorities will be ensuring our greenhouse facility operates in a safe and efficient manner. You will also be managing all of our greenhouse projects and driving them to a successful completion. When necessary, you will also support the larger greenhouse team with any hands-on activities related to our production goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle all maintenance and repairs related to Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing, including being proactive and troubleshooting minor repairs if necessary
  • Manage the greenhouse inventory and strive to receive the highest quality and most cost competitive materials
  • Source and purchase all greenhouse equipment
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule for all greenhouse equipment, working hands on with equipment where necessary
  • Research, purchase and ensure the successful integration of any necessary greenhouse software or hardware systems
  • Use creative and problem solving skills in order to develop and implement facility procedures that will increase yields, efficiency and overall greenhouse performance, including developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Project manage all active and future greenhouse projects, including but not limited to: developing project execution plans, developing timelines and budgets, managing and keeping all internal and external stakeholders informed, conducting thorough risk assessments, and keeping meticulous notes of all project developments
  • Maintain positive relationships with all external vendors, serve as the greenhouse main point of contact and schedule/ host on site visits when needed
  • Follow and enforce all company Stewardship and Containment policies
  • If necessary, support the team with hands-on activities including, but not limited to: plant staking/ trimming/ trellising/ sampling/ transplanting/ autoclaving, general facility sanitation work, and any tasks related to pest management

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Applicants must reside within the state of California
  • Applicants must have 2-3 years of industry greenhouse maintenance experience (or similar industry facilities experience in a life science field)
  • Understanding of greenhouse or indoor growing programming and controls
  • Previous experience in project management
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; high attention to detail; highly organized; continuous improvement mindset; dependable
  • Ability to thrive and adapt in a fast-paced, quickly changing startup environment
  • Ability to independently lead a variety of tasks and projects simultaneously, under time constraints, with limited resources and strict deadlines
  • Ability to handle stressful situations, in an efficient and professional manner

Nice to have:

  • Previous experience with soybeans (Glycine max)
  • Previous experience with handling regulated and permitted plant material that is overseen by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)

Physical Requirements for the Essential Functions of this Role:

  • You are comfortable working in a wide range of temperatures, humidity, and sunlight and/or other extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to do repetitive tasks that can be physically demanding such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, crouching, squatting, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to pollen, allergens, chemicals, cleaning products, spaces with no air conditioning, loud noises, uneven ground, dust, and/or strong odors is to be expected.

Closing:

The pay range is currently between $60,000 to $80,000 in annual gross compensation. Within the range, individual pay is determined by many factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
