Nuventura is a Berlin-based climate tech company developing a new generation of medium-voltage switchgear that is both highly innovative and environmentally sustainable. With our patented gas-insulated technology, we replace SF₆ — one of the most harmful greenhouse gases — with clean, dry air, while maintaining the same reliability and performance as conventional systems.

Our mission is to accelerate the global transition toward sustainable electrical infrastructure. To achieve this, we work at the intersection of deep engineering expertise, industrial partnerships, and rapid product development. Our product portfolio is expanding quickly through new development projects and international scaling activities. As an interdisciplinary and engineering-driven company, we enable utilities and manufacturers worldwide to adopt SF₆-free technology and make power grids future-proof.

As a Senior Protection & Secondary Design Engineer (f/m/x), you will take full ownership of the protection and secondary design for medium-voltage power systems. You will be responsible for developing protection concepts, creating secondary schematics, selecting and configuring protection relays, and supporting testing and commissioning activities.

This role combines deep technical expertise with hands-on execution and close collaboration across engineering, project management, and commissioning teams, allowing you to support projects end-to-end — from initial design through successful energization.

Tasks

  • End-to-end protection design for MV systems

Take full responsibility for the protection design of medium-voltage power systems, including feeders, transformers, generators, and switchgear — from concept development to implementation.

  • Secondary design & engineering documentation

Develop detailed secondary system schematics, protection philosophies, and technical documentation in line with project requirements, client specifications, and international standards (IEC, IEEE).

  • Relay selection, configuration & commissioning

Select appropriate protection relays based on system studies, perform parameter setting and configuration, and support commissioning activities on-site and remotely.

  • Testing, fault analysis & technical support

Execute functional testing, secondary injection tests, and commissioning tests of protection relays. Support troubleshooting, fault analysis, and system optimization during commissioning and operation.

  • Cross-functional collaboration & project support

Work closely with project managers, primary engineers, and commissioning teams, including occasional travel to project sites to ensure successful project delivery.

Requirements

  • You bring 7–10 years of hands-on experience in protection engineering and secondary system design for medium-voltage power systems and have successfully delivered projects from design to commissioning.

  • You apply deep expertise in power system protection concepts, using them confidently in real-world MV applications.

  • You independently design MV protection and secondary systems, taking ownership of technical decisions and ensuring high engineering quality.

  • You select, configure, test, and commission protection relays, working with leading relay technologies and manufacturers.

  • You plan and execute relay testing, including functional testing, secondary injection, and commissioning activities.

  • You select and size CTs and VTs based on protection, metering, and system requirements.

  • You create and maintain high-quality schematics and documentation, using tools such as EPLAN and AutoCAD (experience with Elecdes is a strong advantage).

  • You work independently and proactively, while collaborating effectively with cross-functional project teams.

  • You are willing to travel to project sites as required to support testing, commissioning, and technical troubleshooting.

  • You communicate fluently in both English and German, verbally and in writing, and are comfortable working in an international environment.

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a comparable technical field is a plus.

Benefits

  • You will be part of an innovative group of high-performance and experienced people from diverse backgrounds.

  • We are committed to your growth and will challenge you directly to become the best professional version of yourself.

  • We believe in a culture of trusted ownership, caring meritocracy, and constructive feedback where we elevate each other and challenge the status quo.

  • A sustainable, down-to-earth, and passionate company.

  • Free snacks, drinks and fruit basket every day.Exciting and regular team events, including a Christmas party, summer celebrations with a budget for departmental events.
