Role Summary

Renew Home's VPP delivery portfolio is expanding — more programs, new markets, and new utility partnerships, all moving in parallel. If you are a strategic operator and exceptional executor who thrives creating structure in ambiguity, making complex systems clear and functional, and is as comfortable running a high-stakes utility partner meeting as managing a detailed program plan — this role was built for you.

The Senior Technical Implementation Manager, VPP owns the end-to-end process of bringing first-of-kind VPP programs from concept to live operation. You'll sit at the center of our VPP Delivery portfolio — spanning utility programs, market VPP operations, and new program types in the pipeline — and serve as the connective tissue between teams during the most critical phase of any program: launch.

You'll own programs from initial scoping through steady-state handoff, building the operational infrastructure, coordinating across teams, and making each launch more repeatable than the last. You'll work alongside a team of analysts who own steady-state execution and tracking — together supporting the full program delivery lifecycle. You actively look for ways to streamline, reduce friction, and automate across the implementation process -- for internal teams and external partners alike.

Think of this role as part Program Architect, part Launch Manager — you design the operational model, coordinate the launch, and ensure it is set up for success in steady state.

What You Will Do

Program Scoping & Design

  • Lead the intake and scoping process for new VPP programs — from initial concept through operational design and implementation plan.
  • Proactively communicate program risks upward — translating technical and operational blockers into clear risk narratives for leadership, with recommended mitigations and decision asks.
  • Define success metrics, tracking frameworks, and performance baselines before launch, so every program is instrumented from day one.
  • Partner with commercial and technical teams to translate financial assumptions into operational requirements.
  • Document program architecture — SOPs, runbooks, process flows — in shared knowledge systems so client-facing and technical teams can operate independently.

Cross-Functional Implementation Coordination

  • Drive implementation and delivery readiness across commercial and technical teams — owning the critical path, tracking dependencies, and surfacing risks early.
  • Develop and maintain scalable processes for standard program implementations while owning bespoke scoping for non-standard or first-of-kind programs — building the framework that turns edge cases into repeatable playbooks.
  • Manage programs across all phases from intake and scoping through testing, go-live, and steady-state handoff.
  • Serve as the primary internal point of contact for commercial teams during program build and launch; coordinate with Client Success, who owns the external client relationship.
  • Facilitate formal launch reviews and ensure all cross-functional sign-offs are completed before a program goes live; synthesize inputs into exec-ready summaries for leadership go/no-go decisions.
  • Assess and escalate program risks based on development activities across teams.

Handoff & Steady-State Setup

  • Define clear handoff criteria from launch to steady state — ensuring downstream teams have everything they need to run and track programs independently. Support program management activities as needed to support bridge to steady state.
  • Define, scope, and document the dashboards, timelines, and performance tracking mechanisms that downstream analysts will inherit — optimizing for efficiency, visibility, and consistent execution quality.
  • Define and own post-launch health checks — including structured feedback mechanisms from partners and internal teams — to inform continuous improvement of the implementation model.

Knowledge Infrastructure

  • Own and maintain business SOPs, runbooks, and process documentation for every program you launch — written to audit-ready standards.
  • Train client-facing and commercial teams on new program processes; incorporate their feedback into finalized documentation.
  • Contribute to the intake process for new programs — triaging non-standard requests and routing to the appropriate teams.
  • 4–8+ years of experience managing complex, cross-functional initiatives from concept through launch in energy, utilities, or B2B2C environments, with a track record of building processes and operational frameworks where none previously existed.
  • Strong program management and operational instincts; able to create structure in ambiguous environments, scope and launch programs without established playbooks, and proactively identify risks, trends, and operational needs using a mix of data and business signals.
  • Familiarity with virtual power plants (VPPs), demand response, distributed energy resources (DERs), and/or related energy programs, including understanding of dispatch mechanics, enrollment design, operational scalability, and program instrumentation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across Client Success, Product, Engineering, Technical Operations, commercial teams, utility partners, and leadership while synthesizing complex discussions into clear, executive-ready narratives.
  • Strong systems thinking and operational design mindset; experienced defining success metrics, launch readiness criteria, reporting frameworks, and handoff processes that enable downstream teams to operate independently at scale.
  • Demonstrated documentation discipline, including creating and maintaining SOPs, runbooks, process flows, launch frameworks, stage-gate processes, and audit-ready operational documentation that remains usable beyond your direct involvement.
  • Empathetic, client-oriented operator who can balance operational rigor with relationship management, navigating both detailed program execution and high-stakes partner conversations effectively.
  • Technical fluency and comfort working closely with Product and Engineering teams without deferring on substance; able to understand technical systems, operational dependencies, and data flows well enough to coordinate confidently across functions.
  • Hands-on experience with project management and operational tooling such as Notion, Jira, or similar platforms; you build and maintain systems and workflows that teams rely on, rather than simply consuming them.
  • Bonuses:
    • Experience with battery storage, EV, or smart thermostat programs
    • Experience working with utility DERMS or OEM partners
    • Background in client success or customer implementations
    • Familiarity with data analytics or CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot)
