Overview Energy is building a mission-driven team committed to delivering space-based solar power to the world. We operate at the intersection of space and clean energy, delivering baseload power 24/7 without seasonality or the need for batteries. We are based in the Northern Virginia/DC area, are backed by world-class investors, and currently operate in stealth mode.

As a Hardware Development Intern at Overview Energy, you will apply your knowledge, leadership, and creativity to help design and build our constellation of next-generation satellites at unprecedented affordability and scale. You will take part in the design, build, and test cycle to validate system characteristics needed for Overview Energy’s first spacecraft system. This can include tight iteration cycles for reliability, manufacturability, mass reduction, and system cost.

This role is paid and requires a commitment of 10 weeks.

  • CAD Design: Utilize CAD software (such as SolidWorks or NX) to design parts, assemblies, and components for various projects, ensuring manufacturability and ease of assembly.
  • Rapid Iteration: Implement rapid prototyping techniques through design and analysis to drive system trades and inform the overall design of the spacecraft.
  • Testing: Validate designs and analysis through the completion of environmental and performance tests, maintaining records for future reference and quality control.

Requirements:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience in a Mechanical Engineering role.
  • Experience with 3D CAD and FEA.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and hands-on mechanical assembly.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work across multiple projects and design iterations simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internship experiences.
  • Experience designing with GD&T and DFM.
  • Experience in spacecraft design and manufacturing.
  • Experience with CNC machining, 3D printing, or other manufacturing techniques.
  • Familiarity with electrical skills such as soldering and basic circuitry.
  • Proficiency in a programming language (preferably Python).

ITAR Requirements:
