Overview
The Manager, Employee Benefits is responsible for administering, analyzing, and communicating the benefits programs to support employee well-being, retention, and satisfaction in a growing global manufacturing company producing distribution transformers. This role involves ensuring the competitiveness and compliance of benefits offerings, managing vendor relationships, and addressing employee inquiries regarding benefits. The Manager, Employee Benefits plays a strategic role in enhancing employee retention and satisfaction while collaborating closely with other HR functions and departments to ensure seamless integration of benefits programs.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, leave policies, wellness programs, and other company-provided benefits.
- Perform detailed analyses of benefits offerings, utilization rates, and cost structures. Generate reports to identify trends, forecast future benefits costs, and provide actionable recommendations to support decision-making processes by senior management.
- Conduct research on industry standards and trends in employee benefits. Benchmark the organization’s benefits against competitors and market norms to ensure competitiveness, attractiveness, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Ensure all benefits programs comply with federal, state, and local regulations. Stay updated on legislative changes affecting benefits and implement necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding benefits. Provide a high level of customer service by developing and distributing clear, informative materials about benefits options, enrollment procedures, and policy changes.
- Manage relationships with benefits providers and vendors, including negotiating contracts, resolving issues, and evaluating service levels to ensure high-quality employee experiences.
- Coordinate the benefits enrollment process during open enrollment periods and throughout the year for new hires and life event changes. Utilize technology, such as HRIS, to streamline the process and ensure accurate and timely processing of enrollments, terminations, and modifications.
- Analyze benefits costs and collaborate with the finance department to seek opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality. Recommend strategies for optimizing benefits offerings to achieve a balance between cost efficiency and employee satisfaction.
- Assist in the design and implementation of new benefits programs or enhancements to existing programs based on employee needs, organizational goals, and market trends. Collaborate with other departments, including finance and legal, to ensure alignment with broader organizational strategies.
- Utilize HR Information Systems (HRIS) for benefits administration, ensuring accurate data entry and maintenance. Leverage technology to streamline benefits processes and improve user experiences.
- Develop and conduct educational sessions or workshops for employees to promote understanding and utilization of benefits. Drive engagement through effective communication strategies, including modern channels such as webinars and e-learning platforms.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of benefits policies and procedures. Ensure consistency and clarity in all benefits-related documents and communications.
- Lead or participate in benefits-related projects, including system implementations, program rollouts, and process improvement initiatives. Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables effectively, including leading cross-functional project teams.
- Work closely with the HR team and other departments to ensure seamless integration of benefits with other HR functions such as payroll, HRIS, and talent management.
- Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of benefits programs and processes. Seek feedback from employees and management to identify areas for improvement and innovation in benefits offerings.
- Evaluate and manage vendor contracts for benefit and retirement plans.
- Train and support HR staff and management on HR systems and policies.
- Oversee wellness initiatives.
- Build-out overall employee benefits strategy and related processes to support a diverse and growing employee population.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This role may have future supervisory responsibilities, including managing a benefits specialist and coordinating with external consultants and vendors.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field is required.
- Advanced degrees or certifications such as Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) are preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of related experience, with 3 or more years in benefits administration and supervision preferred.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment or a unionized setting is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of benefits programs, laws, and regulations.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in benefits administration systems, including data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
- High level of professionalism, with the ability to work at all levels of the organization.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
