About Plug
Plug is the only wholesale platform built exclusively for used electric vehicles. Designed for dealers and commercial consignors, Plug combines EV-specific data, systems and expertise to bring clarity and confidence to the wholesale buying and selling process. With the addition of Trade Desk™, dealers can quickly receive cash offers or list EV trade-ins directly into the auction, removing friction and maximizing returns. By replacing outdated wholesale methods with tools tailored to EVs, Plug empowers dealers to make faster and more profitable decisions with a partner they can trust. The Opportunity
You will own title operations at Plug, ensuring every vehicle moving through the platform is properly titled, registered, and compliant across all 50 states. This is not a standard title clerk role. You’ll bring deep expertise in multi-state titling and use that knowledge to help Plug build a title operation that is fast, accurate, and scalable.
Beyond processing, you’ll work cross-functionally with operations, product, and engineering to architect title workflows, eliminate inefficiencies, and design the processes and systems that allow Plug’s title function to keep pace with a rapidly growing marketplace. As Plug expands into new states and partner types, you’ll be the person who ensures the team is prepared for the complexity that comes with it.
What You’ll Do…
Multi-State Title Processing & Compliance
- Own end-to-end title processing including transfers, registrations, lien releases, and payoffs across all 50 states.
- Navigate state-by-state titling requirements with confidence, including variations in documentation, timelines, fees, and regulatory procedures.
- Verify the completeness and accuracy of all documentation before submission. Ensure nothing moves forward with gaps or errors.
- Stay current on changes to DMV regulations across jurisdictions and proactively flag impacts to Plug’s workflows.
- Track outstanding titles and submissions, resolve discrepancies, and ensure nothing falls through the cracks.
Process Architecture & Efficiency
- Partner with operations, product, and engineering to design and improve title workflows that reduce turnaround time and manual effort.
- Map the current title process end to end, identify bottlenecks, and propose scalable solutions.
- Help define requirements for tooling and system improvements that support title operations as Plug scales.
- Build, maintain, and enforce SOPs for title processing, registration, and lien resolution across all states.
- Own change management when new processes are introduced, including documentation, training, and adoption tracking.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with internal teams to gather required paperwork, payoff information, and vehicle documentation.
- Work directly with lenders to secure lien releases and payoff confirmations.
- Partner with operations, sales, and transportation teams to ensure title timelines align with vehicle movement and auction schedules.
- Serve as the go-to resource for any title, registration, or DMV-related questions across the company.
Reporting & Accountability
- Define and track KPIs for title operations including processing time, backlog, error rates, and compliance status.
- Produce regular reporting that gives leadership clear visibility into title performance and risk areas.
- Identify trends in title delays, documentation issues, or state-specific complications and drive systemic fixes.
- Ensure audit-ready records for compliance and internal review.
Knowledge Leadership
- Maintain a centralized knowledge base for multi-state titling requirements, edge cases, and common issues.
- Serve as Plug’s internal authority on titling regulations and DMV processes.
- Informally guide and support team members who interact with the title process.
- Be the person the team turns to when a title situation is complex or unfamiliar.
What You’ll Bring…
- 5+ years of experience in DMV title processing, title operations, or a related automotive compliance role.
- Deep working knowledge of multi-state titling requirements, DMV regulations, and lien release processes.
- Experience working across a high volume of states, not just one or two jurisdictions.
- Proven ability to identify process inefficiencies and work cross-functionally to design and implement improvements.
- High attention to detail with a track record of maintaining accuracy at volume.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of concurrent transactions and deadlines.
- Clear communicator who can keep internal and external stakeholders informed without being chased.
- Comfortable partnering with product and engineering teams to translate operational needs into system requirements.
- You bring structure to ambiguity, take full ownership of your work, and hold yourself to a high standard of accuracy and follow-through.
Nice to Have
