Based in Durham, N.C., FlexGen is an innovative software and services provider in the global energy storage sector. At the forefront of the energy transition, FlexGen leverages decades of engineering and software expertise to help shape the future of sustainable power both in the United States and globally. FlexGen's HybridOS™ software seamlessly integrates with any hardware vendor and with both traditional and renewable power sources. Our advanced analytics and AI-driven insights enable energy storage owners to effectively deploy diverse power market strategies and integrate various generation forms, enhancing grid stability and increasing economic returns. With 1.5M hours of runtime and 8 GWh of energy storage systems managed with HybridOS™, FlexGen provides field-tested software and services solutions that are trusted by the most technically and commercially demanding developers, utilities, government agencies, and industrial companies in the world.
Position Description: As a Lead Integration Engineer at FlexGen, you will bring industry experience to strengthen how HybridOS is configured and deployed across production projects. You will lead the advancement of our configuration frameworks, reusable templates, and integration workflows, reinforcing best practices in control software and mission-critical system delivery.
By engaging early with Systems, Product, and Project Delivery teams, you will provide practical guidance to ensure project requirements align effectively with HybridOS capabilities and established configuration approaches, improving execution quality while reducing project risk. You will also partner with Software and Product teams to evolve our deployment model to support scalable third-party delivery under the One-Touch Commissioning Enterprise framework, while improving clarity, efficiency, and consistency for Integration Engineers.
Upon joining, you will develop a strong understanding of HybridOS and our integration processes, then apply seasoned judgment to refine and elevate our end-to-end deployment approach for consistent, high-quality field execution.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Drive early-phase alignment between engineering design decisions and HybridOS configuration approaches to ensure requirements map cleanly to software capabilities, reduce downstream rework, and support scalable, maintainable implementations.
- Provide technical oversight to Project Managers to ensure required integration inputs are complete, scope changes are technically evaluated, and execution remains aligned with integration objectives.
- Represent FlexGen in customer-facing engagements with external stakeholders, exercising sound technical judgment and strategic communication while aligning expectations around HybridOS capabilities and integration delivery.
- Participate in cross-functional design reviews to identify integration risks, configuration complexity, and architectural tradeoffs early in the project lifecycle.
- Apply industry best practices in control software architecture, configuration management, and mission-critical system delivery to strengthen the reliability, and resilience of HybridOS deployments.
- Define and promote standards for modularity, reusability, traceability, and long-term maintainability in site configurations, expanding the library of validated templates and repeatable integration patterns.
- Establish clear structure and governance for configuration artifacts, ensuring disciplined version control, documentation, and change management practices across all integrations.
- Support the development of validation and commissioning readiness standards that improve deployment quality and reduce field issues.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in related field.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience
- Familiarity with U.S. power markets and grid operations, particularly ERCOT and CAISO, including an understanding of market participation and operational requirements for energy storage assets.
- Expert-level experience integrating & deploying complex control systems in multi-device, multi-protocol production environments.
- Deep working knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including Modbus (TCP/RTU), DNP3, and synchrophasor technologies, with practical experience implementing and validating field communications.
- Experience in the energy industry, ideally energy storage, hybrid power systems, or microgrid deployments.
- Experience supporting or integrating microgrid control systems, including multi-asset coordination and islanding/grid-connected transitions.
- Experience improving or standardizing integration and deployment processes.
- Familiarity with Agile development environments and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Experience working in high-growth or startup environments.
