Summary:
The Commissioning Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the commissioning process of engineering projects, ensuring that systems and equipment are properly installed, tested, and integrated according to project specifications and client requirements. This role involves leading a team of commissioning engineers, coordinating with project managers, clients, and subcontractors, and ensuring that commissioning activities for Powin’s Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This position provides leadership on root cause analysis, engineering improvement feedback, and overall installation process and procedures to ensure continuous commissioning improvements.
Job Details:
- Manage a team of commissioning engineers; conduct regular 1:1 meetings, mentor, and foster a collaborative and productive work environment across the team
- Develop commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures in collaboration with project managers, engineering teams, and clients
- Establishes and communicates high performance standards, define clear accountability, and lead by adopting continuous improvement strategies
- Effectively manages assigned resources to address priorities, meet schedules, maximize productivity, reduce costs, and increase efficiencies
- Establish relationships and collaborates with key internal stakeholders to ensure Powin meets start-up and commissioning commitments
- Document commissioning activities, including test results, observations, and recommendations, and prepare commissioning reports for clients and project stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental requirements during commissioning activities
- Oversee functional testing, performance verification, and system integration to ensure proper operation and functionality of engineered systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues encountered during the commissioning process, coordinating with engineering teams and vendors as needed
- Collaborate with project managers to resolve commissioning-related issues, mitigate risks, and ensure project success
- Conduct site inspections and reviews to verify that equipment installation meets design specifications and industry standards, as needed
- Gather insights from the field and deliver to the Product Management, Engineering, Project Success, and Service teams
- Provide training and support to operations and maintenance staff on newly commissioned systems and equipment
- Contribute to the development of best practices and standard operating procedures for the commissioning process
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or engineering field or equivalent experience
- 5+ years’ experience in commissioning, energy storage, distributed generation, data center equipment, or large-scale electrical equipment
- 3+ years of progressive managerial experience
- Demonstrable experience as a customer facing manager, capable of handling a complex customer environment, understand a complex product definition, and delivery process
- Strong skills in analysis, quality assurance, and methods of procedure development to create predictable, measurable results
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, with a sense of urgency
- Proficient in learning customer operating systems and managing large volumes of data
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite PMP or other scheduling software
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively
- Strong decision-making ability and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate professionally across all levels of the organization both verbally and in writing
- Specialized knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) preferred
- Relevant certifications (e.g. PMP, energy storage certifications) are a plus
- Flexible working hours may be necessary to accommodate project schedules and deadlines
- This role is remote within the United States
- Travel to project sites for inspections, commissioning activities, customer support, and business meetings as needed

Compensation for this position is commensurate with location, experience and relevant skills. The national Average Base Salary Range is $100,000-$136,000. Positions may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based on company and personal performance.
