Project Canary is a climate technology company offering an enterprise data platform that helps energy companies improve and report on their emissions footprint. Project Canary builds high-fidelity sensors, ingests data from various other technologies and sources, and leverages proprietary analytics and models to deliver insights that operators can act on to reduce emissions. The data-driven technology enables energy operators to stop leaks faster, reduce risk, streamline reporting, and differentiate their operations for key stakeholders.
We are looking for a mission-driven, execution-oriented senior finance leader to join our executive team, reporting directly to the CEO. The ideal candidate combines strong strategic thinking with the ability to operate at the ground level—developing models, solving problems, and elevating the performance of the finance function. This person will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s growth, culture, and long-term value creation.

As a member of the executive team, the VP of Finance will connect financial data directly to company strategy, partner across departments—especially with Sales and Marketing—and lead all aspects of corporate finance, including fundraising, strategic transactions, capital planning, and financial operations. This role will directly manage FP&A, accounting, contracting, and AR/AP personnel. The right candidate brings not only SaaS and services experience, but also a solid understanding of manufacturing environments where precision and cost discipline are critical.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Finance & Business Enablement
- Connect financial insights with strategic direction, informing both company-wide and departmental decision-making.
- Build robust financial models, dashboards, and forecasting tools to drive planning and performance across the organization.
- Act as a key partner to the Sales and Marketing teams, helping drive customer acquisition, revenue growth, pricing strategy, and margin optimization.
- Bring commercial acumen to support GTM decisions, unit economics, and product monetization.
Fundraising & Strategic Transactions
- Lead capital strategy, including equity and debt fundraising, government grants, and incentives.
- Drive financial due diligence and execution of potential M&A, strategic partnerships, and investor negotiations.
- Prepare compelling board and investor materials that highlight performance, risk, and growth opportunities.
Operational Finance & Manufacturing Support
- Oversee all core financial functions: FP&A, accounting, audit, tax, treasury, and controls.
- Implement scalable processes and systems across finance, billing, and procurement to support a multi-product business.
- Establish reporting and financial management practices aligned with both SaaS and manufacturing operations.
Leadership & Culture
- Inspire and enable the finance team to reach new levels of performance, accountability, and collaboration.
- Lead, mentor, and develop finance staff, while also rolling up your sleeves to support the team directly when needed.
- Champion operational discipline, continuous improvement, and transparency.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, with recent roles in climate tech, SaaS, or advanced manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated success in equity and debt fundraising, investor relations, and supporting strategic transactions.
- Hands-on experience leading FP&A, accounting, and finance operations at a scaling venture-backed company.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing cost structures, supply chain finance, and operations.
- Track record of partnering effectively with Sales, Marketing, and Product teams to support revenue and growth goals.
- Proven ability to build, lead, and elevate finance teams.
- Executive presence and communication skills to interface with boards, investors, and cross-functional leadership.
- CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred.

- Salary range: $200,000-$250,000 annual base
