Prolific Machines is on a mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable agriculture. We believe that we have the only solution to make cultured meat at a price that is competitive with factory farming. We are looking for mission-driven, skilled, and kind people to help create the alternative we need to transition to a more sustainable and healthy future.

Diversity : We value diverse people, perspectives, and knowledge. To this end, we aim to foster a sense of belonging that enables everyone to bring their whole, authentic self to work everyday. We are committed to growing a diverse and inclusive team that encompasses all types of people. We believe this can only be achieved by acknowledging the ancestral, historic, and current systemic and communal inequities.

The Position

We’re looking for a Senior Research Associate to support and contribute to the synthetic genomics screening platform at Prolific Machines. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage quantitative biology in an industrial setting. You’ll work closely with your colleagues to design and and execute the molecular and cell biology required to run functional genomic screens. Strong experience with cell culture, next generation sequencing (NGS) library prep, molecular biology techniques, and flow cytometry will set you up for success in this role. You’ll be provided with tons of room for technical growth and development towards independent research, once the essential functions of the team are mastered.

Some Things About You

  • Comfortable working independently and within a team environment
  • Have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Eager to work in a high-growth, fast-paced startup environment

What You'll Need To Succeed

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering, or a related field, and 3+ years post-degree experience in an industrial or academic research setting
  • Experience with functional genomics methods including pooled or arrayed screens
  • Experience with mammalian cell engineering methods, including but not limited to CRISPR, Piggybac, and Sleeping Beauty
  • Experience with modern NGS library preparation and Illumina sequencing
  • Proficient in standard molecular biology techniques
  • Strong experience with fluorescence assays, flow cytometry, and microscopy

This position description likely contains skills you already have as well as skills you would learn in the role. These skills are not requirements, so if you think you would do a great job at this role then you should apply regardless of whether you fit the above criteria.

Location: The San Francisco Bay Area (Emeryville)

Benefits: Outstanding Health, Vision & Dental Insurance (including full spouse coverage), at least one all-expense-paid team holiday per year, flexibility in schedule and unlimited vacation days. Free lunch every day!

Evaluation : In lieu of the traditional application process of a CV and cover letter, we would rather give you an opportunity to tell us about yourself on your own terms by answering the below three questions. However, we do ask that it is concise (e.g less than 200 words for written answers).
