The Position

To achieve our mission it is critical for us to make uncompromising products that over deliver on customer and consumer expectations. The Flavor Scientist will join our growing Product Innovation team, who is responsible for creating delicious and nutritious products. They will work closely with our biology, process, and analytical chemistry groups to understand gold standard products and collaborate to deliver delicious experiences. You will design and execute human perception and chemical testing to guide biology and product improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Head of Product Innovation, this role is responsible for identification of the causative chemistry of meat flavor
  • You will collaboratively define gold standard products and defining the causative chemistry of those products
  • You will collaborate with biology and product teams to improve product quality characteristics in cultured food products
  • You will develop and run validated assays that allow efficient screening of cultures, processes, and products
  • You will develop perceptual and instrumental methods, including the standard operating procedures, to evaluate product performance
  • You will build technical and operational processes & systems to support a growing organization
  • Integrate findings from sensory analyses and participate in such

What You’ll Bring

  • 6+ years of experience in flavor research, preferably with meat flavor chemistry
  • Experience in analytical chemistry (eg. GC-MS, LC-MS) and sensory guided analytical chemistry (eg. GC-MS-Olfaction, LC-MS-Taste)
  • Strong organizational, program, and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Experience in savory flavor system design
  • Experience in biochemical fractionation and reconstruction
  • Experience in human perception research, and guiding business decisions with sensory evaluations
  • Deep technical curiosity and rigor, and a desire to share and learn from others

What We Offer

Start Date & Location: Emeryville, CA.

Compensation Range:$120,000-$150,000 (bi-weekly payments) + significant stock options (subject to vesting), performance-based bonus, and free lunch and drinks every day!

Location: The San Francisco Bay Area (Emeryville)
