The Position

In order to achieve our mission it is critical to understand our ingredients, cultures, processes, and products. The Senior Scientist will join a growing team on a mission to better characterize our cutting edge cultures and processes. They will work across our biology, process, product, and regulatory teams to produce high quality and rigorous data driving business critical decisions. As an early member of this team you have a unique opportunity to help build critical research infrastructure, and grow as the team does.

Responsibilities

  • You will function as the analytical chemistry technical lead responsible for generating, documenting, summarizing, and reporting business critical bioprocess and product characterization data
  • You will build technical and operational processes & systems to support a growing organization and manage the day-to-day operations of the analytical team
  • You will lead the development and validation of both FDA and USDA-compliant methods, including the standard operating procedures, to characterize a wide range of material quality characteristics
  • You will work cross functionally to define experimental approaches that deliver on business needs, and communicate organizational needs to execute characterization experiments
  • You will maintain analytical instrumentation including GC-MS, LC-MS, HPLC, UV-Vis and identify organizational opportunities to expand characterization capabilities
  • Contingent on experience and performance you will act as a people manager and develop staff to be able to execute strategy effectively and efficiently

What You’ll Bring

  • 8+ years of relevant analytical characterization experience including experience in GC-MS, LC-MS, HPLC, ICP-MS, and proximate analysis for food
  • Food and/or drug cGMP familiarity
  • Experience in analytical chemistry platform development, building systems to plan resourcing and information exchange with multiple cross functional groups
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative metabolomics, lipidomics, and proteomics
  • Experience with method development, validation, and testing in a GLP/GMP environment
  • Illustrated experience maintaining and troubleshooting analytical instruments
  • Deep technical curiosity and rigor, and a desire to share with and learn from others
  • Excitement to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, educating along the way
  • Experience in scientific computing (eg: Python, R, Ect.)
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Required to possess specific vision abilities (color vision)
  • Integrate findings from approved sensory analyses and participate in such

What We Offer

Start Date & Location: Emeryville, CA.

Compensation Range:$135,000-$175,000 (bi-weekly payments) + significant stock options (subject to vesting), performance-based bonus, and free lunch and drinks every day!

Location: The San Francisco Bay Area (Emeryville)
