Position Overview

This position will lead development projects for state-of-the-art heavy duty EV battery technologies. Proterra is looking for a program management professional with strong technical, communication, and leadership skills to meet the demanding technical, quality, and schedule requirements of this growing industry. This position will report to Proterra’s Director of Program.

This position will be immersed in the development process and will shepherd projects from concept through to prototype validation and production hand-off. As a Program Manager of Battery Technology, you would be expected understand the product requirements, technical risks and the validation strategy to accelerate the development process. You’ll be passionate about our mission of clean, quiet transportation for all, drawn toward managing complex projects, and able to demonstrate a high degree of process ownership and innovation.

About the Role – You will:

  • Lead battery technology development projects
  • Develop and communicating project plans and schedules
  • Identify creative ways to overcome obstacles and meet the schedule despite setbacks.
  • Proactively ensure that risk mitigating actions are on-going within the engineering teams
  • Identify multi-functional design dependencies and risks
  • Transparent communication and escalation with leadership team when required
  • Contribute to weekly cross-functional team meetings for each project
  • Track and drive closure to supply chain, manufacturing and prototype build issues
  • Collaborate with:
  • Commercial team to understand customer requirements and contracts
  • Engineering and purchasing team to ensure on-time releases and procurement
  • Software and firmware engineers to ensure that software goals and schedules are synced
  • Reliability and test engineers to make sure validation efforts are thorough and timely
  • New Production Introduction (NPI) to bring up and hand-off production of the products
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Your Experience Includes:

  • 8-12 years of experience in experience in managing complex projects through the full product development life cycle
  • Demonstrated experience leading customer-facing programs
  • Demonstrated experience creating, maintaining and communicating schedules
  • Demonstrated understanding of product release cycle as it relates to the creation and change management of parts and BOM structures
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand and communicate tradeoffs between engineering design, manufacturability, schedule and cost
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate/present complex technical concepts to non-technical teams, audience ranging from cross functional support individuals to executive leadership
  • BS in an engineering discipline; OR equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Ability work onsite at one of Proterra’s locations either in Burlingame, CA or Greer, SC
  • Ability to travel as needed to Proterra sites and project-related partner sites
