Position Overview
This position as part of the HR Operations and Total Rewards Team will play a crucial role in assisting in designing, implementing, and managing Proterra’s compensation programs to be our competitive advantage to attract, retain, and motivate talent. The ideal candidate will bring 12 years of expertise in compensation analysis, program design, and strategic compensation planning and will be responsible for analyzing compensation data, ensuring alignment with industry standards and organizational goals, and providing insights to support strategic decision-making related to employee compensation programs.
About the Role – You will:
- Conduct comprehensive market research to benchmark compensation structures and practices against industry standards and key competitors and make recommendations based on trends to ensure competitiveness.
- Assist in the development and implementation of compensation strategies that align with Proterra’s objectives and market.
- Assist in the design and implementation of job evaluations, pay grades, and salary ranges.
- Provide recommendations for enhancements to salary ranges, bonus structures, and incentive programs.
- Develop and maintain compensation benchmarking databases and tools for easy benchmarking.
- Maintain Proterra’s job matrix with updates to benchmark positions and audit for any updates or mismatches.
- Oversee the administration of compensation programs within UKG (i.e. merit planning, incentive programs, bonus plans, promotion cycles, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and industry best practice. Stay current on any regulatory changes to mitigate risks and ensure fair comp practices.
- Assist in collaborating with Finance team to manage and administer compensation budgets and forecasts.
- Serve as a POC for compensation related questions from employees and managers
- Provide guidance on compensation policies, procedures, and practices to HR, managers and employees.
- Perform detailed analysis of compensation data to identify trends, anomalies, and areas of opportunity.
- Prepare reports on compensation metrics, program effectiveness and utilization and market competitiveness for leadership.
- Collaborate with HRIS Analyst to identify and implement improvements to compensation systems and processes.
- Other duties as assigned.

- This position will be part of the Greer based HR team.
- You will report to the Director of HR Operations and Total Rewards and collaborate with other HR team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA.
Skills & Competencies:
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Advanced knowledge of compensation principles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Strong analytical skills with experience using HRIS and compensation management systems (UKG, Workday, ADP, etc.)
- Ability to present complex data and concepts to diverse audiences.
- Must be fluent in English and have strong written and oral communication skills
- Proven project management skills with the ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- High level of integrity and discretion with a strong commitment to confidentiality.
Your Experience Includes:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, Business Administration, Finance or equivalent.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in compensation analysis, total reward, or related field.
- Experience building compensation programs including salary grades, job architecture, job matrices, etc.
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) preferred.
