About the Role – You will:
- Develop, enhance, and promote environmental, health, and safety programs and policies to promote a safe work environment and mitigate exposure to the environment.
- Lead all efforts to achieve ISO 14001 certification and manage the system to ensure compliance, subsequent recertification's.
- Lead all environmental compliance obligations for the organization (i.e. waste, air, water, DOT)
- Serve as the system administrator for all EHS Metrics including, but not limited to incident and corrective action management, compliance training, safety observations, and near miss reporting.
- Prepare weekly / monthly / quarterly EHS reports detailing leading and lagging metrics. Smartsheet proficiency is a plus.
- Provide EHS training and serve as the system administer for Proterra’s EHS Learning Management System (LMS).
- Conduct safety inspections, ergonomic risk assessments, job hazard analysis, and ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, DOT, SC DES, and local authorities.
- Coordinate incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Develop and integrate waste management, minimization, and recycling programs.
- Understand and adhere to current quality and control policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure continuous improvement, compliance.

- This position will be part of the EHS team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations.
- You will report to the EHS Director and collaborate with other EHS team members located at our Greer Manufacturing Facility, while supporting our headquarters in Burlingame, CA.

Your Experience Includes:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as an EHS Coordinator or Specialist in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent relevant experience
- Bachelor’s Degree completed
- OSHA 30 hour – General Industry certificate
- ISO 14001 certification / recertification experience
- Demonstrate a broad knowledge of EPA, SC DES, DOT, OSHA, and NFPA.
- Knowledge of legal repercussions of workplace injuries/accidents and strong leadership skills.
- Comfort in leveraging multiple software platforms to integrate solutions with existing business platforms.
- Adept at conflict resolution and finding consensus in challenging situations.
- Physical Demands:
- May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
- Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
- Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
- Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.
- Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.
- Hands-on position on the production floor as well as time spent in an office environment preparing documents and/or performing training.
- Environmental Demands:
- Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
- Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
- Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.
You might also have:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Safety Management or other technical-related field.
- CSP, CIH, CHMM, EIT, or other technical certification
- OSHA 501 – Trainer certificate for General Industry
Travel: Travel to other facilities may be required
