Role Overview
Pyka is looking for a Finance and Business Manager to lead the financial, administrative, and operational buildout of our Brazilian subsidiary. This is not a traditional back-office finance role as you will be hands-on across customs and import logistics, regulatory compliance, legal project management, and while supporting our local operations team as we scale Pelican aircraft deployments across Brazil and potentially South America.
You will serve as the primary financial point person in Brazil, working closely with Pyka’s US-based leadership and external advisors (legal counsel, accountants, customs brokers) to ensure the subsidiary runs smoothly and compliantly. This is a high-autonomy, high-impact position ideal for someone who thrives in startup environments where the scope of the job extends well beyond the title.
This role is based in Brazil. Fluent English is required, as you will communicate daily with Pyka’s headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee treasury activities, managing cash position, liquidity planning and banking relationships
- Own the day-to-day financial management of Pyka Brasil, including budgeting, cash flow forecasting, accounts payable/receivable, and monthly close processes (with our external accountant)
- Drive improvements in financial process, reporting and systems; strengthen internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies.
- Coordinate with external accounting firms and auditors to ensure accurate bookkeeping and tax compliance under Brazilian regulations
- Manage transfer pricing documentation and intercompany agreements in compliance with Brazilian Law 14,596/2023 and OECD guidelines
- Support annual budgeting, re-forecasting, and scenario analysis for the Brazil operation Imports, Customs & Supply Chain Operations
- Lead and coordinate the import process for Pelican aircraft, battery packs, spare parts, and related equipment, working with customs brokers and freight forwarders
- Navigate Brazilian customs frameworks including NCM classification, LETEC incentives, Ex-Tarifário applications, and Siscomex/DUIMP procedures
- Develop and maintain the import strategy to minimize duties, optimize logistics costs, and ensure regulatory compliance
- Support the buildout of a spare parts fulfillment network across key operational regions in Brazil Legal & Regulatory Project Management
- Serve as the internal project manager for legal workstreams, coordinating with external law firms on corporate governance, labor law (CLT), contracts, and regulatory matters
- Manage the drafting, review, and execution of intercompany agreements, customer contracts, vendor agreements, and employment-related documents
- Ensure compliance with Brazilian workplace regulations (NR-1, PGR, EPI management, employee registries) and liaise with labor consultants as needed Operational Support & Local Administration
- Act as the operational backbone of Pyka Brasil, managing vendor relationships, office/warehouse logistics, and administrative processes
- Identify and implement local tools, systems, and processes to scale the Brazil operation efficiently
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Pyka’s flight operations, supply chain, and engineering teams to support field deployments
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or financial operations, with at least some of that time in a role that extended into operational, administrative, or project management responsibilities
Strong working knowledge of Brazilian tax, accounting, and corporate regulations
Demonstrated ability to manage legal and regulatory projects, coordinating between internal stakeholders and external counsel
Fluent in English and Portuguese (spoken and written) — you will communicate daily with Pyka’s US headquarters and must be able to draft documents, lead calls, and present in both languages
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and comfort working with financial models and reporting tools
Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently, prioritize across multiple workstreams, and adapt to a fast-moving environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a startup or high-growth company, particularly in a role where you helped build operations from the ground up
Experience with import/export operations in Brazil — familiarity with customs procedures, NCM classification, and trade incentive programs is highly valued
Familiarity with transfer pricing methodologies (TNMM/NCP) and intercompany documentation requirements under Brazilian law
Background in agribusiness or aviation
