R&D Technician (Temporary)

QuantumScape developed the industry’s first anode-less cell design, which delivers high energy density while lowering material costs and simplifying manufacturing. Our innovative battery cell technology can store energy more efficiently and reliably than today’s lithium-ion batteries.

Team: You will join our All-Solid-State Battery (ASSB) team to continue delivering new and critical next-generation battery cells for QuantumScape solid-state battery tacking exciting materials challenges.

Shift:2 Mon-Fri, 2pm - 10:30 pm


  • Handle air sensitive materials in dry room / fume hood with proper PPE.

  • Operate pressing and sealing equipment with full attention to standard operating procedure (SOP) details, including setup, cleanup, and troubleshooting.

  • Prepare samples for materials and process evaluation.

  • Work closely with engineers and other technicians to continuously improve the process.

  • Accurately and timely document experiment details and pass downs.

  • Prepare, weigh, package, document samples for materials test.


  • High school diploma with 1+ years of experience in a R&D laboratory or manufacturing environments.

  • Ability to perform work in a dry room, and glovebox that requires the use of fine motor skills for extended periods of time, standing, reaching and twisting motions with hands, and lifting up to 25 lbs.

  • Attention to details: follow procedures to efficiently run equipment and handle chemicals safely.

  • Adaptable: Comfortable with constantly evolving processes and enjoy learning new techniques.

  • Hands on: Enjoys mechanical work, using tools, building/fixing things to improve productivity

  • Inquisitive: observes processes, scrutinizes methods, and suggests improvements.

  • Clear communicator: good written and verbal skills to logically communicate observations and thought processes.

  • Flexible: Willing to work overtime on short notice.

  • Analytical: Basic computer skills to accurately record and analyze data

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience of working in glove box and/or dry room.

  • Experience with metallographic sample preparation.

  • Familiar with analytical tools and techniques (microscopy, mechanical testing, etc)

  • Experience in operating heavy duty pressing machine.

This position is required to perform these above essential duties and responsibilities onsite at our QS offices.

Compensation & Benefits: Salary range for this role is between $20.29 and $26.35, and a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other exciting perks.
