QuantumScape is on a mission to transform energy storage with solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The company’s next-generation batteries are designed to enable greater energy density, faster charging and enhanced safety to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.

What we need: We’re looking for a curious, hands‑on engineer to help push the performance and reliability of our anode‑free solid‑state batteries. You’ll validate changes to cell design, develop and optimize cell assembly processes, and integrate new materials and components. You’ll turn test and metrology data into insights that guide the next build—working closely with cell design, metrology, failure analysis, and manufacturing teams.

What You’ll do:

  • Execute and refine cell build processes; run controlled experiments (DoE) to test hypotheses.
  • Analyze electrical test and metrology data; surface trends that inform design and process changes.
  • Validate new components and materials on next‑gen cell platforms, document results and learnings.
  • Collaborate with automation and metrology teams on tooling, inspection, and data capture.
  • Contribute to process specs and handoff packages for scale‑up and production.
  • Communicate progress and findings through clear reports, dashboards, and presentations.

Skills You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or a related field with 3+ years relevant experience OR Master’s degree with 1+ years’ experience.
  • Working understanding of electrochemical systems and battery test metrics.
  • Practical experience in an R&D/process‑development environment.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis and visualization; comfort with statistics and basic DoE.
  • Strong communicator; thrives in cross‑functional settings.

Nice to have:

  • Industry experience with lithium‑ion or solid‑state cells.
  • Familiarity with reliability concepts (e.g., life testing, failure modes, SPC).
  • Basic mechanical design or hands‑on troubleshooting of assembly equipment.

The Opportunity: Ship tangible improvements to cell performance and reliability, learn from senior mentors, and gain end-to-end exposure—from benchtop experiments to scaled processes.

Onsite: This position is required to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position. As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration.

Compensation & Benefits: Expected salary range for this role is from $ 117,500 to $152,700, and a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other benefits.
