Rainmaker

Rainmaker

El Segundo, CA, USA
Posted on Sep 10, 2024
Rainmaker is pioneering a modern precipitation enhancement system to solve water scarcity and inclement
weather problems. We develop and incorporate radar validation, weather-resistant UAS,
numerical weather modeling, and sustainable cloud seeds into an effective precipitation
enhancement solution.
Rainmaker scientists aim to understand the physical and chemical characteristics of novel cloud
seeding particles and how they interact with clouds. If you are interested in working in an
extremely innovative and fast paced environment, where your work directly makes an impact
and difference in our operational system, this is a fantastic opportunity.
As a meteorologist at Rainmaker, you will play a critical role in informing weather based decision making for operational and research divisions of the organization. Your experience shows both a strong background in field science and understanding of meteorological systems of observation and the role they play in aiding in the development of numerical weather prediction models.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operational forecasting for operational and research precipitation enhancement locations
  • Model evaluation and intercomparison studies using remote sensing and in-situ observation of mixed-phase clouds
  • Quality control and evaluation of observational data streams for use in model evaluation activities
  • Contributing to technical reports for use in systems evaluation and development
  • Operation of ground-based remote sensing instrumentation
  • Maintenance of remote weather stations and field observation site equipment

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.s. Meteorology/Atmospheric Sciences
  • Languages: Python (xarray, metpy, pyArt), Unix, NCL, Campbell LoggerNet (GUI and scripting)
  • Familiarity with file types: NetCDF, Grib2, Dorade, CSV
  • Field meteorology experience, operation of radiosonde systems, wiring and troubleshooting campbell scientific based weather stations, experience working in inclement weather
  • Experience processing remote sensing data from radar, lidar, and satellite data from internal and public sources

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • M.s. Meteorology/Atmospheric Sciences or 2-3 years experience
  • Prior research experience resulting in publication or conference presentations
  • Prior experience working with ceilometer data, aerosol/air quality monitoring equipment, and eddy covariance observations
  • Experience running WRF
  • Typesetting in Latex
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Passionate about leveraging technology to address water scarcity and weather challenges.
