Technical Program Manager, Battery Sorting
Essential Duties:
We are seeking a Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead a cross-functional engineering program for X-Ray and Software-based automated battery sorting. This role will focus on managing the development and integration of advanced imaging systems, robotics, and AI-driven software solutions to support Redwood’s mission of recycling all types of batteries. The ideal candidate has experience leading complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects and excels at working with teams across hardware, software, and industrial automation.

Responsibilities will include:
- Drive the end-to-end execution of a highly technical engineering program, ensuring seamless integration of X-ray imaging, software, and mechanical automation into Redwood’s recycling processes.
- Develop project roadmaps, milestones, and execution strategies, aligning cross-functional teams across software engineering, mechanical design, automation, and imaging technologies.
- Manage program risks, dependencies, and technical challenges, proactively resolving issues to keep projects on track.
- Collaborate with engineering and research teams to define requirements, validate designs, and support iterative prototyping.
- Work closely with software developers, robotics engineers, and imaging specialists to ensure seamless data integration and system performance.
- Oversee vendor and supplier coordination for hardware and software components, ensuring alignment with Redwood’s quality and sustainability goals.
- Lead technical reviews, sprint planning, and status updates to ensure clear communication of program progress and priorities.
- Optimize workflows, data processing, and automation strategies to improve efficiency and scalability.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 2+ years of experience in technical program management within hardware/software integration, robotics, imaging systems, or industrial automation, or 5+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering for such products.
- Strong track record of managing complex, interdisciplinary projects that involve mechanical, software, and imaging components.
- Experience with X-ray imaging systems, AI-driven software development, or robotics is a strong plus.
- Proven ability to manage software development projects, including AI/ML applications, data processing, and real-time automation.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles as they relate to system integration.
- Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment with shifting priorities and aggressive timelines.
- Experience with Agile development, Jira, and program management tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
Working Conditions:
- Environment, such as office or outdoors.
- Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time.
- Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing.
- Occasional work weekends, nights, or be on-call as a regular part of the job.
- Occasional travel requirements.
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
