Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Emissions Test Engineer to support product development and validation efforts within a highly advanced R&D environment. This role is focused on engine and component emissions testing, ensuring products meet regulatory standards and performance requirements.
This position combines hands-on lab work, test development, equipment ownership, and cross-functional collaboration to support next-generation propulsion and emissions technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Emissions Testing & Equipment Ownership
- Operate and maintain advanced emissions measurement systems (FTIR, FID, NDIR, PM systems, etc.)
- Perform calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of emissions analyzers and instrumentation
- Support acquisition, installation, and commissioning of new test equipment
- Ensure accuracy, reliability, and uptime of all testing systems
Test Development & Execution
- Develop and implement test procedures and validation methods
- Execute emissions testing to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
- Improve testing processes for efficiency, repeatability, and data quality
Multi-Discipline Testing Support
- Provide technical leadership across various test platforms, including:
- Gas stand thermodynamic and functional testing
- Engine dynamometer (engine stand) testing
- Electric machine and power electronics testing
- Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) testing
Data Quality & Technical Support
- Analyze test data and ensure integrity and accuracy of results
- Troubleshoot equipment and test-related issues, performing root cause analysis
- Provide technical guidance on emissions measurement best practices
- Maintain detailed documentation for test procedures, calibration, and results
Project & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with product engineering teams to support development programs
- Assist with lab capability planning and technology upgrades
- Manage timelines and deliverables to support critical project milestones
- Support training and knowledge sharing across engineering and lab teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering, or related field (required)
- 5+ years of experience in emissions testing within an R&D or lab environment
- Hands-on experience with emissions measurement systems (FTIR, FID, NDIR, PM, etc.)
- Strong understanding of emissions standards and regulations (EPA, CARB, etc.)
- Experience operating and troubleshooting complex test equipment and instrumentation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master’s) in a related engineering field
- Experience in automotive or industrial emissions product development
- Knowledge of:
- Engine controls and combustion systems
- Data acquisition systems and signal processing (FFT, filtering, etc.)
- Communication protocols (CAN, Modbus, etc.)
- Experience developing or refining test procedures and lab processes
