Role Summary

Internship Term: 


Rivian internships are experiences optimizedfor student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between 2024 and 2026

Mechanical engineering support for paint shop manufacturing engineering, the building infrastructure design production team, and utilities maintenance engineering team.


As an engineering intern in our team, you may; 

  • Support System Design – Work with senior engineers to plan and scope the design of the mechanical systems within our facilities. Review consultant deliverables to ensure adherence with Rivian standards. 
  • Analyze Technical Problems - attack technically complex problems using fundamental, data driven methodologies. Support in investigating new system architectures, new equipment, and new construction techniques. Review designs and challenge assumptions.
  • Develop and Implement Standards and Processes – work with the Mechanical team to develop our internal design standards, specifications, and analysis tools to improve the design and delivery of all our facilities. Engage and champion Rivian’s goals of sustainability and decarbonization through system designs and project decisions – Forever Starts Now.


Some specific projects you will support include:

  • Weld water system installation and commissioning
  • Compressed air system survey and troubleshooting
  • Utilities usage measurement and optimization
  • CMMS rollout and implementation
  • Maintenance rounds app development
  • Asset tracking and utility system reviews, HAZOP, RCFA etc.


  • Must be currently pursuing a bachelors, masters, or PhD degree at an accredited university
  • Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of piping, fluid mechanics and HVAC.


Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Internships: The range of pay for internships is 25.00-51.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on location, and other factors permitted by law. 


Rivian provides robust wellness benefits, and a medical insurance package for interns, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
