Role Summary

We are actively seeking a Data Engineering Leader to join our expanding team of data professionals. In this role, you will have the dual responsibility of shaping our enterprise data platform strategy and vision while also serving as a hands-on technical expert leading a team of highly skilled data engineers and data platform operations specialists.

 

Your primary mandate will be to lead a team of accomplished data engineers and data platform experts in the development of a world-class data platform. This platform will cater to the diverse data, reporting, and data science requirements of multiple business domains across our enterprise. Your focus will be on maintaining top-tier reliability, scalability, usability, and data quality.

 

As the Data Engineering Leader, you will collaborate closely with fellow leaders in our Enterprise Technology organization and engage with leaders across various business domains to facilitate and implement high-quality, data-driven decision-making processes.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of contemporary data architectures, leveraging cloud platforms and technologies for scalability, elasticity, and cost-efficiency.
  • Implement real-time data processing solutions to enable timely insights and actions, utilizing streaming technologies and event-driven approaches.
  • Utilize containerization and orchestration techniques to streamline deployment and scaling of data pipelines and workflows.
  • Establish robust data governance practices, metadata management, and compliance frameworks to maintain data quality, lineage, and regulatory adherence.
  • Implement data cataloging solutions to facilitate data discovery, metadata tagging, and self-service data access.
  • Enforce data security through encryption, access controls, and monitoring while adhering to security best practices.
  • Facilitate the integration of machine learning models into data pipelines and platforms, enabling advanced analytics and AI-driven insights.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize data pipelines and processing engines to improve performance and reduce latency.
  • Implement data observability practices, monitoring data pipelines and quality in real-time, and setting up alerts for anomalies.
  • Foster collaboration with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand evolving data requirements and deliver data-driven solutions.
  • Implement DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines specific to data engineering, enabling automated testing, version control, and deployment of data solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in data engineering tools and technologies, including but not limited to ELT/ETL tools, data integration platforms, cloud services, data warehousing solutions, big data frameworks, and streaming technologies.
  • Strong coding skills in languages commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, Java, Scala, R, or SQL.
  • Expertise in data modeling, database design, and data architecture.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data security, and data quality best practices.
  • Experience with data visualization and reporting tools is a plus.
  • Proven data engineering leadership experience in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, execute, and oversee complex data engineering projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Ability to mentor and lead a team of data engineers, fostering their growth and development.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to align data engineering initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Deep understanding of modern data architectures, data management practices, and emerging trends in data engineering and analytics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex data engineering challenges.
  • Proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues in data pipelines and processes.
  • A track record of delivering successful data engineering solutions that meet business objectives and timelines.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: 184K- 211 K/ year (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

 

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
