Role Summary

This is an exciting power electronics mechanical design role housed within our Electric Power Conversion Product Development team! The successful candidate will cover suppleir management, root cause analysis, BOM management, and support other activities for product launch.


Responsibilities

  • Design and Release mechanical components for power electronics using the ENOVIA system.
    • Create 3D models and 2D prints.
    • Generate and maintain top-level assembly BOM.
    • Components include die-cast, plastic injection molding parts, busbars, sheet metal, harnesses, and seals
    • Ensure all relevant component attributes are captured and accurate.
    • Execute engineering releases for mechanical components.
    • Lead required component design changes to ensure they are properly implemented in the production line.
  • Support product launch and ramp-ups at production plants.
    • Travel to plants and work with series engineers and production line team
    • Assist with the design of mechanical test fixtures as needed.
    • Troubleshoot and help root cause issues that occur in the production line.
    • Generate key component assembly instruction manuals.
  • Resolve design related issues, RC tickets.
    • Work on problem issues, root cause analysis, resolutions, and implementation of resolutions with cross functional team members.
  • Active participant in supplier weekly meetings.
    • Engage with sourced suppliers to close open items in a timely manner.
    • Actively communicate with Supply Chain and Supplier Quality groups to address and close out relevant action items.
  • Assist with generating vital technical documents for the mechanical team.
    • Documents include technical component specifications, prototype test plan, statement of work for sourcing components, and assembly instruction manuals. 
  • Participate in the creation of DFMEAs and DV test plans for power electronics components.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering field.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience as an engineer working in Power Electronics assemblies.
  • Experience interfacing and managing external suppliers.
  • Knowledge of CATIA V5 or V6 software including part design and assembly design workbenches.
  • Experience with fundamental design practices of die casting, sheet metal, high voltage busbars, LV harnesses, seals, and injection molding.
  • Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Ability to understand electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Understanding and knowledge of ENOVIA Product Lifecycle Management system.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Visio.
  • Experience working in the automotive industry and startup environment preferred.
  • The expected travel for this role is ~25%.

Pay Disclosure

  • Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $121,000 - $139,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
  • Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
