Role Summary

The Senior Plant Controller will report directly to the leader of Accounting Operations, and is responsible for the financial control of all manufacturing and logistics sites at the Company’s Normal, IL locations. The Plant Controller manages day-to-day accounting functions, month-end close activities, internal and external reporting, and annual audits. This position contributes to the timely and accurate issuance of financial statements and provision of meaningful analysis of variance on business performance. The Plant Controller will engage regularly with internal and external partners so effective partnership skills and strong communication is highly desirable.


Responsibilities

  • The Plant Controller manages day-to-day accounting functions, month-end close activities, internal and external reporting, and annual audits
  • This position contributes to the timely and accurate issuance of financial statements and provision of meaningful analysis of variance on business performance
  • The Plant Controller will engage regularly with internal and external partners so effective partnership skills and strong communication is highly desirable
  • Work closely with operations and IT to ensure adequate processes and procedures are in place to allow for an appropriate accounting of factory financial results and safeguarding of company assets
  • Work with the teams above and the Rivian SOX team to ensure the processes and procedures established above are designed to meet all SOX requirements
  • Establish and maintain a set of processes, procedures and reports that allow for sufficient monitoring of success in the above areas
  • Take the lead in working with cross-functional partners to remediate any areas identified above which need improvement (either identified as a deficiency, or in order to allow for improved effectiveness / efficiency of operations)
  • Ensure compliance with monthly US GAAP reporting requirements
  • Analyze variances and communicate variance explanations to management with recommended actions where appropriate
  • Provide leadership to ensure adequate cost accounting processes are in place, including cost management, physical inventory verification,  and review of inventory, at the Normal, IL plant
  • Work with finance to analyze plant operating costs in detail and recommend action to increase profitability and enhance long-term return on investment
  • Work with finance and plant operations to help advise on the financial implications of operating strategies, cost control actions and decisions
  • Provides proactive / unsolicited consultation, interpretation and education of complex financial and operational matters to various departmental leaders used to help drive business decisions
  • Hires, integrates and trains new staff while leading the continued professional development of the existing team
  • Shares best practices across the various logistics and manufacturing sites, e.g., process improvements and procedure changes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in accounting or related field (or unrelated undergrad degree with a relevant graduate degree such as an MBA or Masters in Accounting)
  • Prior work experience as a Controller in a Manufacturing environment, including Cost accounting experience
  • Solid knowledge of US GAAP as it relates to a manufacturing environment
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams to reach a common goal
  • Demonstrate strong and pragmatic business acumen
  • Strong work ethic, professionalism and flexibility; must possess the ability to adapt to a growing & evolving environment and a dynamic industry
