Role Summary

Utilizing Rivian processes based on industry standards from VDA and AIAG, the Supplier Quality Manager – Powertrain and Chassis will be responsible for managing the quality performance of the Powertrain and Chassis supply base.  This role will have direct reports, reports to the Director of Supplier Quality, and will report onsite in Normal, IL. 


Responsibilities

Strategy and Development  

  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice quality vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance  
  • Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Quality activities 

Team Leadership 

  • Ensure ESS and Thermal supplier quality team carries out required supplier validation audits, supplier stability to support the manufacturing, supplier production part approval process (PPAP) for series changes, supplier corrective actions, and associated reporting for program updates. 
  • Work with Engineering team to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process requirements 
  • Manage and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to support the manufacturing plant, warranty/service, supply chain, new project timing and supplier scorecard performance 
  • Lead the effort of continuous improvement activities at the Powertrian and Chassis supplier using manufacturing plant indicators
  • Manage Rivian Concerns and Nonconforming Material problem solving activities to implementation with Powertrain and Chassis team to ensure no nonconforming parts reach the manufacturing line
  • Escalated topics related to critical supplier industrialization topics to ensure quality and volume.  
  • Provides guidance and advises direct reports within the establish company policies.

General and Task Management 

  • Implement all relevant procedures described in the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure compliance through the audit process. 
  • Respond to customer complaints to ensure the Powertrain and Chassis team is achieving fast- response to implementation of the problem-solving process.
  • Develop Powertrain and Chassis team to ensure compliance to requirements of the quality system and application of procedures  
  • Provide regular quality status update for the Powertrain and Chassis team and present to management.
  • Reduce the effect of non-conforming supplier materials on the production area quality  
  • Overall Powertrain and Chassis team management of series suppliers to ensure the supply and demand of needed component and stability of the supply chain – escalation as necessary
  • Develop, implement and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility  
  • Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports  
  • Ensure KPIs are met 
  • Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required   

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of supplier quality engineering experience
  • 3+ years of leadership experience in Quality
  • Technical expertise in automotive and Powertrain and Chassis
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience  
  • Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) 
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge 
  • Metrology, Inspection Methods and Equipment 
  • Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings 
  • Understanding manufacturing processes 
  • Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment 
  • Planning and prioritizing activities 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to present data effectively 
  • Problem-solving, Analytical skills 
  • Understanding of cost and financial impacts
