Role Summary
Rivian is looking for a highly motivated Chemical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineer to lead the development of adhesive systems used in existing and next generation battery manufacturing strategies. This is an exciting opportunity to take one of the adhesive processes for new our Battery platforms from initial concept through equipment development, validation builds, and into full production. This position is highly cross-functional, requires exemplary communication skills, and relies on the ability to understand and balance product design and manufacturing system objectives. This role is located at our Normal, IL facility and reports directly to a Sr. Manager, Manufacturing Engineering - Battery.
Responsibilities
- Own an adhesive process in the battery shop, from the very first concept, through DFM, equipment selection, commissioning, all the way through hand off to the sustaining team.
- Work closely with Product Design team to select the best adhesive for an application.
- Ensure DFM process results in product design that can meet aggressive production metrics.
- Lead adhesive dispense vendor selection.
- Ensure dispense system design will meet aggressive production metrics using detailed calculations, on-site and off-site trials, and leading the FAT.
- Deliver and lead commissioning of adhesive process.
- Root cause adhesive launch issues in a data driven way.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
- 7+ years of experience (hiring level commensurate with experience) working on adhesive systems, industrial processes
- Demonstrated ability to design and operate dispense equipment.
- Deep understanding of adhesives, and fluids with some exposure to manufacturing processes and controls.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a heavily cross functional role with many competing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems using first principles, challenge assumptions and biased towards action
- Willingness to travel, especially during peak demand
