Role Summary

Reporting to Rivian’s Senior Director of Privacy, you will help to lead Rivian’s privacy risk and compliance efforts worldwide, with a focus on Rivian products. You will work closely with product teams to promote privacy-by-design, perform risk assessment (e.g., privacy impact assessment), and support overall privacy program operations and growth. You will interface directly with company leadership on a regular basis, as well as third party vendors, partners, and outside counsel and will prepare key reports and presentations to help implement and maintain a robust data privacy program. You will also support privacy risk and compliance efforts worldwide for employee privacy.


Responsibilities

  • Set privacy expectations for Rivian products and services through training and product counseling
  • Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other cross-functional partners to build privacy into our products and services, with a focus on mobile app, ADAS, reliability, charging
  • Lead or support project management and execution for key data- and privacy-related initiatives
  • Conduct risk management activities such as supporting business teams in the completion of and review of privacy impact assessments
  • Liaise regularly with Rivian partners, such as privacy leads and engineers at the Rivian/Volkswagen joint venture software development entity, on product privacy requirements
  • Serve as a company-wide subject matter expert and trusted resource on data privacy
  • Develop strategic guidance and training on advanced privacy topics, such as use of geolocation data, de-identification/anonymization, and artificial intelligence
  • Liaise with Rivian People Team partners on employee privacy requirements.
  • Benchmark industry approaches and positions to inform strategic direction on privacy and related matters
  • Provide privacy advice and guidance to marketing, communications and brand on marketing issues
  • Track industry and regulatory trends, focus areas, and risks and share internally with the Privacy team and internal stakeholders
  • Develop strong partnerships with internal business clients across Rivian, including Legal, Operations, Engineering, People Team, Compliance and Regulatory to develop planning and implementation systems that support compliance objectives

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of proven privacy risk and compliance experience in multinational, complex fast-growing global organizations, preferably involving automotive and/or technology
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable global data privacy laws and requirements including the CCPA, CPRA and GDPR with experience assisting teams in implementing technical privacy solutions such as PETs and spotting emerging trends and new and evolving issues
  • Experience with privacy product counseling for consumer and commercial products and services
  • Experience authoring, implementing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and related compliance documentation
  • Organizational, project management, strategic and operational planning skills with a deadline-centric and action-oriented mindset
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills and ability to successfully work with all levels of the organization
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with a focus on conciseness, clarity, and responsiveness
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with the Google Suite and presentation software and familiarity with privacy tools used for privacy rights requests, consent management, etc.
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) Certification
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Creative and solution oriented – willingness to come up with new ways to enable the privacy program to be more effective
  • Ability to travel, as required

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for Palo Alto, CA based applicants:$149,000 - $187,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
