Role Summary
The Manager of Data Science and Data Engineering will lead a team of data scientists and analytics engineers to drive insights and strategic decision-making for our Service organization. At Rivian, you will collaborate across organizations—including Service, Commercial, Finance, Enterprise, and Strategy—to shape the development of data schemas and machine learning models. This data and models will enhance our forecasting, estimation, optimization and scenario planning for Service. In addition, the role requires a versatile leader who can effectively communicate technical concepts to engineers as well as non-technical stakeholders, building scalable solutions and infrastructure while still impacting short term business goals. The Manager of Data Science and Engineering will report to our Sr. Manager of Business Operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and hire team of data scientists and analytics engineers, continuing to mentor and develop the team along with maintaining team culture.
- Guide the technical strategy for analytics engineering and data science initiatives, ensuring a balance between scalability and business impact.
- Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of data schemas, data infrastructure, and machine learning models within Databricks and dbt.
- Ensure technical quality and or standards across the team through processes (architecture, code reviews, documentation) and culture (engineering excellence)
- Collaborate with organizations to develop and execute solutions to support Service data and models.
- Partner with senior leaders to support strategy and roadmap planning, ensuring the balance of short and long-term needs to support team scalability.
- Contribute to team’s code base and technical design across variety of problems within Service.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent practical experience.
- Masters or PhD in computer science, mathematics, engineering preferred.
- Previous experience in automotive, service operations, or logistics preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience of data science and machine learning experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience successfully leading data science and engineering teams.
- Strong project management skills with demonstrated success delivering in an agile manner.
- Strong communicator, with ability to partner at the most senior levels of organizations and experience presenting and building relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Ability to train, mentor, and evaluate the technical capabilities of others.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects at once without sacrificing quality.
- Hands on experience coding or developing in Python, Spark and SQL.
- Experience with Databricks, MLflow, and dbt is preferred.
- Knowledge of underlying mathematical foundations of statistics and machine learning with focus areas such as optimization, Monte Carlo, time-series forecasting, regression, supervised and unsupervised techniques.
Pay Disclosure
Salary Range for California Based Applicants: $186,000 to $232,500 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
