Role Summary

The Mechanical CAD (MCAD) Solutions Engineer will play a pivotal role within Rivian’s PLM & Product Development Systems team, serving a techno-functional role supporting critical MCAD tools and processes, primarily in 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA V6. This individual will collaborate with Product Development, IT, Engineering and Manufacturing teams to understand business requirements that will support and enhance our design processes, BOM management, and data integrity. This individual will contribute to solution design and develop customized applications that enhance the functionality of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform using C++ CAA (Component Application Architecture), EKL, REST APIs, Python and VBA/VB. NET. This role is located at our Palo Alto, CA or Irvine, CA facility and reports directly to a Sr. Manager, Solutions Engineering.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align MCAD system functionality with broader enterprise objectives, ensuring a cohesive and well-integrated design and development environment.

  • Actively participate in discussions with various stakeholders to understand mechanical design workflows including 2D and 3D design fundamentals, BOM management, attribute management, standard part and material library integration.

  • Work closely with solution leads and technical teams to define project objectives and requirements.

  • Convert objectives and requirements into precise technical specifications through understanding of platform features and technical feasibility of customization.

  • Develop custom applications and functionalities to meet broader enterprise objectives, business requirements, and project technical specifications

  • Prepare comprehensive documentation, including requirements, specifications, and unit test procedures.

  • Ensure solutions are thoroughly tested for performance, reliability, and compliance with organizational standards.

  • Troubleshoot, debug and optimize custom modules to ensure their reliability and efficiency.

  • Provide application support, troubleshoot issues, and ensure timely upgrades to maintain tool effectiveness and security.

  • Address performance issues to guarantee the smooth operation of customizations.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for MCAD architecture, including evaluating new technologies and methodologies to enhance tool performance and usability.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of experience with 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA V6 or CATIA V5 customization using C++, CAA, and EKL in a product design, MCAD tools environment.

  • Experience in engineering and manufacturing concepts, bill of materials management, configuration management, document control and change management activities.

  • Familiarity with various 3DEXPERIENCE modules, such as Product Structure Design, Drafting, Process Planning, Planning Structure, and Data Setup or CATIA V5 equivalents.

  • Strong understanding of CAA architecture and APIs.

  • Experience in developing solutions using REST APIs.

  • Basic understanding of 3DEXPERIENCE DMC and MQL.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, VBA, and VB.NET.

  • Experience with DevOps tools such as GIT, GitLab, and GitHub.

  • Experience with project management tools like JIRA.

  • Knowledge of AWS, JPO, Java, and JavaScript, C# is a plus.

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

  • A passion for technology, problem-solving, and contributing to a collaborative team environment.


Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for California Based Applicants: $149,700-$187,100 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
