Job Description

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

The Rivian Insurance Agency Manager position is a dynamic, hands-on leadership role responsible for the overall performance, and operational excellence of the Rivian Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance agency.

This leader will be charged with driving a world-class customer experience, ensuring regulatory compliance, and scaling the agency’s sales and customer care teams to meet the demand generated by Rivian’s vehicle deliveries and growing customer community. The ideal candidate blends deep P&C insurance expertise with a proven ability to lead and scale operations in a fast-paced, high-growth, tech-forward environment.

Responsibilities

I. Leadership & Team Management

  • Recruit, train, coach, and manage a high-performing team of licensed Insurance Advisors and customer care personnel.
  • Cultivate a competitive, customer-centric culture focused on exceeding Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for sales, retention, and customer satisfaction (e.g., CSAT).
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive training and professional development program to maintain a highly knowledgeable and compliant sales force.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and mentorship to ensure the team is equipped to excel in a consultative, high-volume environment.

II. Strategy, Operations & Compliance

  • Define, implement, and continuously refine all aspects of the P&C insurance sales, service, and operational processes, utilizing technology to drive efficiency and enhance the customer experience.
  • Manage licensed sales agent licensing and compliance across all active and expansion states, ensuring adherence to carrier and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and manage operational metrics, reporting dashboards, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for the agency's sales and service delivery.
  • Collaborate with Rivian’s internal Product and Tech teams to influence the strategic vision for insurance sales globally, particularly regarding digital integration and usage/behavior-based insurance programs.
  • Act as the final point of escalation for complex customer or regulatory issues related to the insurance agency.

III. Partner & Carrier Management

  • Manage sales and operational relationships with all third-party P&C insurance carriers and partners.
  • Conduct regular KPI analysis and business reviews with carrier partners to optimize performance, manage commissions, and identify new product opportunities.
  • Advocate internally and externally for the optimal insurance solutions for Rivian customers, particularly regarding features, pricing, and claims experience unique to Electric Adventure Vehicles.

IV. Customer Experience & Sales Execution

  • Oversee the seamless integration of the insurance consultation and sales process into the overall Rivian vehicle purchase journey.
  • Ensure that the team focuses on consultative selling—guiding customers through evaluating their insurance needs, closing sales, and fostering strong business relationships to ensure high retention and brand loyalty.
  • Provide continuous feedback to Product, Sales, and Carrier teams on opportunities to enhance the product offering and streamline the digital experience.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive hands-on experience in the insurance industry, with at least 3+ years in a leadership/management role overseeing multi-state personal lines, small commercial sales and distribution operations. (Must be actively selling policies)
  • Proven track record of success leading, scaling, and optimizing an in-house or captive insurance agency/distribution channel.
  • Experience establishing and managing sales relationships and performance (KPIs) with a minimum of two large or top 10 insurance carriers.
  • Prior experience selling or launching usage- or behavior-based insurance programs is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and manage complex projects from concept to deployment in a startup or rapid-growth environment.

Education & Licensing

  • Active Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance license for multiple states is mandatory.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or advanced professional designation (e.g., CPCU, CIC) preferred.

Technical & Core Competencies

  • Expertise with Agency Management Systems (AMS360), CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce), and insurance quoting systems.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to define and drive performance through data-driven metrics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of synthesizing complex business and regulatory concepts for executive stakeholders.
  • Proactive, self-starter mentality with the ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to continuous process and product changes.
