About Skyven

At Skyven Technologies, we have developed a revolutionary heat pump technology to decarbonize industrial heat and move the needle on climate change. Our technologies have the potential to completely eliminate on-site CO2 emissions from industrial steam. We implement this technology through an innovative Energy-as-a-Service model that provides clean process heat to industrial facilities. We identify, fund, design, build, and install our cutting-edge, decarbonization technologies to help industrial manufacturers reach their sustainability goals, while minimizing their risk and reducing their operational expenses.

Industrial heat is responsible for roughly 20% of global CO2 emissions. That’s roughly equivalent to emissions generated by all transportation (including land, sea, and air) and is a compelling business opportunity – it will take an estimated $3.7 trillion in capital investment to decarbonize the sector by 2050. Skyven is at the forefront of this transformation and has recently been selected for a $145M investment from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to accelerate the deployment of our state-of-the-art Skyven Arcturus steam-generating heat pumps (SGHPs) at manufacturing facilities nationwide, revolutionizing how we address energy needs while combating climate change.

About the Role

We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the finalization of Skyven’s heat product design into a completely detailed product ready for procurement and construction. Skyven’s heat pump challenges the conventions of typical, one-off, large industrial systems. Therefore, we need a mechanical engineering leader who understands the analysis requirements of a traditional EPC stick-built design and the productization methods done by product OEMs and is excited to drive these two sides into a robust product platform.

Responsibilities

  • Create piping systems and support designs, pipe stress analysis, and fluid flow analysis
  • Identify, document, and apply relevant national, state, and local codes applicable to product design
  • Create internal tools and methodology to enable scalable delivery for the creation of detailed design engineering deliverables and calculations
  • Perform all detailed design calculations related to non-electrical systems
  • Develop tools to allow engineering calculations to scale with lower manpower over time
  • Review component and material selections and drive final selections for the product platform
  • Identify gaps in engineering specifications and propose new specifications or refinements to drive system standardization, reliability, and scalability
  • Create documentation and standard operating procedures (SOP) for mechanical engineering
  • Provide subject matter expert (SME) guidance on mechanical engineering topics, including piping, material science, mechanical components, stress analysis, corrosion, and thermoscience
  • Validate conceptual product development designs, identifies issues, and advises augmentation
  • Review all technical work created by specification engineers on non-electrical selections for technical accuracy
  • Review all technical work and deliverables created by mechanical designers for technical accuracy.
  • Perform technical reviews on vendor documents and drawing submittals for accuracy and adherence to Skyven specifications
  • Create lifecycle estimates on components and systems using analytical methods
  • Sign and seal mechanical engineering drawings created by yourself or under your supervision
  • Lead team in creation of formal design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA) and mitigations, and hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies
