Responsibilities:
1.)Markets
oWillingness to learn how to do all of the following:
oResearch market/program evolution, including
submarkets/subprograms, rules, value streams, prices, and other
key features
oConduct quantitative analysis, including market sizing and
revenue/gross margin opportunities, to inform strategic market
expansion in open markets
oTrack policy and regulatory developments (e.g., proceedings,
proposed legislation, etc.) affecting markets and programs in
which Stem is active or interested, in collaboration with and
augmenting the work of Stem’s Policy & Regulatory team
oMaintain data sets for 3rd party market intelligence for solar
and storage across U.S. and international markets
oAssess and synthesize insights from changing market rules
and market growth market estimates
oDevelop and maintain familiarity with market dynamics and
programs in wholesale markets such as CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, ISO-
NE, MISO, NYISO, etc.
oResearch and interpret market rules and regulations to define
requirements for storage operations in new markets
oVet interconnection queues to estimate the size, stage,
timing of storage and solar projects
oTrack and analyze historical data for energy and capacity
prices, including locational marginal prices, ancillary services
prices, and capacity / resource adequacy prices
oSupport the upkeep of key internal market tracking tools
2.)Intelligence
oWillingness to learn how to do all of the following:
oGather, organize, and analyze competitive intelligence,
including competitor product offerings, price points,
marketing/sales approaches, through sources such as product
announcements, press releases, data sheets, websites, and
other informative collateral
oGather, organize, and analyze customer feedback, including
from win/loss analysis and voice of customer interviews
oMaintain an active list of project developers across markets
based on publicly available information and then segment these
developers into personas based on their profiles
oMaintain an active list of deals, sellers, and buyers across
markets based on publicly available information and/or Stem
access to databases
oUtilize and configure a key internal intelligence tracking tool
to ensure that information is organized and easily accessible
oVet interconnection queues to estimate the absolute and
relative representation of developers, vendors, and other key
firms
oResearch technology trends, with a focus on energy storage
oTrack the price of DC blocks, inverters, lithium, and other key
inputs to the business
Professional Qulaification
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, math, or similar technical subject (or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years business experience, with an emphasis on modeling, finance, and/or research
- Willingness to learn about energy market fundamentals and modeling, specifically at the ISO/RTO level, and energy storage technology (battery cells, power conversion systems, energy management systems, etc.)
- Ability to work autonomously with excellent time management skills, focusing on key outcomes amidst competing priorities and tight deadlines
- Ability to think across disciplines and functional expertise
- Ability to embrace ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
