Description
Reusable systems with frequent launch cadence are the key to seamlessly connecting Earth and space. A highly operable, reliable, and robust ground system is an integral part of a fully reusable launch system. As a Civil-Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for design, analysis, and engineering of launch and recovery infrastructure. You will be responsible for all phases of infrastructure development including overall architecture, engineering, build strategy, build execution, integration, commissioning, and site operations. As part of a small, well-supported team, you will have access to the resources you need to get the job done right while simultaneously boosting your skills at a pace that can’t be matched in most other roles. You must be ready to stay focused, move fast, self-direct, and learn on the fly.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural engineering and design of new and existing ground infrastructure including launch mount structures, umbilical towers, transport-erector structures, flame trench structures, tank foundations, and other supporting structures and facilities as required to support Stoke’s infrastructure.
- Develop early concepts and schematics and complete infrastructure trade studies.
- Develop design documentation, calculation packages, design drawings, and construction drawings.
- Facilitate and drive coordination closely across engineering disciplines and help define & drive civil-structural design and construction strategy to enable a high-cadence, fast-turn launch and recovery operations.
- Develop and maintain interface and performance requirements for heavy civil structures in coordination with launch mechanical, launch fluids, high power, instrumentation, EH&S, pad operations, vehicle operations, and other supporting entities.
- Fully own and manage cross-discipline design development for supporting facilities such as industrial buildings, hangars, and payload processing facilities.
- Assist Stoke construction management team including RFPs, project awards, RFIs/submittals, and site construction for both heavy civil structural and on-site launch & recovery facilities.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in a related role performing engineering of critical infrastructure projects within the aerospace, amusement park, oil & gas, heavy equipment, energy, or similar high-performance industry
- Bachelor’s degree in civil-structural engineering, structural engineering, architectural engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar field.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) license
- Strong first principals knowledge and hands-on experience of civil-structural design, engineering and construction, including experience with structural steel, reinforced concrete structures, deep foundations, shallow foundations, mass excavations, dewatering, and/or mass earthwork.
- Experience with Architectural, Structural, Civil, and MEPF design coordination and management
- Ability to perform and manage technically complex projects using independent judgment and professional intuition.
- Demonstrated experience executing large capital improvement projects while driving economical and expediate solutions.
- Excellent understanding of engineering construction drawings and construction means & methods.
- Practical experience actively managing civil structural design project schedule, budget and scope.
- Proven ability to work autonomously, receive and incorporate constructive feedback, and work well on a high performing team.
- Experience with applicable engineering standards including ASCE 07, IBC, AISC 360, ACI 318, NFPA, ASTM, & ASME.
- Experience developing civil-structural FEA models utilizing ETABS, SAP2000, ANSYS, STAAD, or similar programs
- Proficient utilizing AutoCAD, Revit, NX, or other modeling and drafting software.
- Innate ability to prioritize and execute
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Able and willing to travel for work as required up to 25% of time
Preferred Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in a related role engineering, building, and leading critical infrastructure projects within the aerospace, amusement park, oil & gas, heavy equipment, energy, or similar high-performance industry
- Master’s degree in engineering, engineering management, construction management, or similar field.
- Structural Engineering (S.E.) license
- Familiarity with AFSPCMAN 91-710 range requirements
- Experience working with federal, stage, and local AHJ’s

Compensation
Target Levels:
- Level 3 Range: $129,150 - $193,620
- Level 4 Range: $151,305 - $252,105
- Level 5 Range: $176,505 - $327,810
