As an Engineering Manager in the Platform Administration Pillar, you will lead the team responsible for the core identity, authentication, and authorization services that power the Workiva platform. Your team builds the secure, scalable foundation that validates every user and service request, enabling compliant growth and seamless interactions across all products. You’ll drive the development of high-performance APIs, SDKs, and admin experiences that reduce latency, improve reliability, and make secure development the easiest path for internal teams and external developers integrating with Workiva.
What You'll Do
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers focused on authentication, authorization, and administrative platform services
Provide hands-on coaching, performance feedback, and growth opportunities for engineers at varying experience levels
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-ownership team culture grounded in trust, accountability, and continuous improvement
Technical Strategy & Execution
Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of foundational services that support identity management, secure access, and cross-platform administration
Guide architectural decisions to ensure platform scalability, reliability, and alignment with Workiva’s long-term technical vision
Ensure engineering best practices around security, testing, operational excellence, and documentation
Drive improvements in latency, service availability, developer experience, and integration usability across internal and external interfaces
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with Product, Security, and Platform Engineering leaders to define roadmaps, scope requirements, and deliver secure, compliant solutions
Work with internal engineering teams and external developers to understand integration needs and remove friction
Promote alignment with Workiva’s enterprise identity and access management strategies
Operational Excellence
Maintain high service availability and performance across mission-critical authentication and authorization systems
Champion observability, incident response readiness, and continuous operational improvements
Reduce complexity through simplification, automation, and thoughtful system design
What You'll Need
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
4+ years of experience in a related engineering role
2+ years of experience in a people management role
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience managing and developing high-performing engineering teams
Deep technical background in distributed systems, identity platforms, authentication/authorization protocols, or platform foundational services
Experience with identity technologies such as OAuth, OIDC, SAML, JWT, RBAC/ABAC, SCIM, or similar
Proven ability to lead teams delivering secure, reliable, high-scale backend services
Effective cross-functional communication skills and ability to influence technical direction across teams
A mindset centered on enabling developers, improving platform usability, and delivering secure-by-default solutions
Experience with enterprise identity or access management systems
Background in cloud-native architectures (GCP, AWS, or similar).
Familiarity with Kubernetes, microservices, and modern DevOps practices
Experience supporting external developer platforms or building foundational SDKs/APIs

How You’ll Be Rewarded
✅ Salary range in the US: $129,000.00 - $207,000.00✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually
✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire
✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits package
