The Senior Director of Business Systems is a strategic leadership role responsible for the vision, strategy, and execution of the company's enterprise application landscape. This leader acts as a trusted partner to the business, aligning technology initiatives with Workiva's overarching goals to drive operational efficiency, scale the business, and accelerate innovation.
You will lead a team of high-performing business systems professionals and be accountable for the full lifecycle of our business applications—from strategic planning and implementation to ongoing optimization and support. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with a deep understanding of business processes, a passion for technology, and a proven ability to build strong relationships and deliver measurable results.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a multi-year technology roadmap that supports Workiva's strategic priorities. Act as a strategic partner to executive leadership and key stakeholders, translating business objectives into actionable technology solutions and initiatives
Business Partnership: Collaborate closely with functional leaders to understand their business needs, identify opportunities for process improvement, and drive change through the effective use of technology and data
Team Leadership & Development: Build, mentor, and empower a resilient and high-talent team that embodies Workiva's culture and values. Provide guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities to cultivate a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous learning
Technology Management: Oversee the evaluation, implementation, and optimization of Workiva's enterprise application ecosystem. Establish and enforce governance, best practices, and security standards to ensure the integrity, scalability, and reliability of all systems
AI & Automation: You champion the strategic use of AI and automation to enhance team productivity and the user experience. You proactively identify opportunities and stay current on new tools and capabilities to ensure Workiva is leveraging these technologies effectively across your domain
Data & Integrations: Lead the data strategy and governance for our business systems, ensuring high-quality, reliable data. Oversee the architecture and maintenance of all system integrations, and partner with stakeholders to make data accessible for analytics and business intelligence
Project and Delivery Management: Manage the intake, prioritization, and delivery of all business systems projects. Proactively manage expectations with stakeholders, mitigate risks, and ensure the team delivers on its commitments with quality and predictability
Financial & Vendor Management: Plan and manage the budgets and expenditures specific to your systems domain. Oversee vendor relationships, including contract negotiation, performance management, and new technology evaluation
Continuous Improvement: Champion a culture of innovation by staying current with emerging technologies and trends, including AI, automation, and data analytics. Identify opportunities to improve processes and systems to increase productivity and enhance the user experience
What You’ll Need
Minimum Qualifications
10+ years of progressive experience in IT or Business Systems, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing teams and enterprise applications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
Demonstrated experience in developing and executing technology roadmaps and strategic plans
Strong understanding of enterprise software systems, business processes, and project management methodologies
Proven ability to build, lead, and mentor high-performing teams
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus across all levels of the organization
Demonstrated experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and complex technology projects
Experience leading large-scale technology transformation (e.g., ERP, CRM, Customer Support platform implementations)
Preferred Qualifications
MBA or Master's degree is a plus
Proven expertise in driving organizational change and promoting the adoption of new technologies
Relevant experience, training, and certifications to the business domain you support (e.g., Go-to-Market, Finance, Customer/Partner Experience)
Working Conditions & Travel Requirements
Ability to travel to meet with teams in other Workiva locations (up to 25%)
Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, not in a Workiva office
How You’ll Be Rewarded
✅ Salary range in the US: $203,000.00 - $325,000.00✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually
✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire
✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits package
