Thea Energy is seeking for an experienced, organized, and motivated Director of Information
Technology.
As Director of IT, you will be responsible for leading and scaling an IT department, including the
management of Thea Energy’s IT platform, including Company infrastructure, security, networks,
systems, software, licenses, and user access.
In this role, you will help design and build Thea Energy’s IT platform to support some of the world’s most
cutting-edge engineering projects as we work to commercialize fusion energy. You will lead the
development and implementation of IT and security strategies that align with Company goals and
objectives. You will also serve as the main point of contact across the Company for all things IT, including
Thea Energy’s labs and offices, while also managing a number of ongoing internal operations. This
position will interact with the company’s technical, leadership, and finance & operations teams to
enable and maintain business operations.
The Thea Energy team is comprised of self-motivated, innovative, and collaborative individuals with an
excitement for solving complex problems. This is a challenging position that requires a high degree of
autonomy, and the ideal candidate must be able to move quickly. A proven track record of leading IT
ecosystems, excellent communication skills, and a passion for new technologies and innovation is
required.

Key Responsibility Areas:

  • Strategically plan and execute to build IT initiatives that support company business objectives
  • Develop and implement an IT development roadmap, track and manage progress of projects
  • Manage day-to-day IT operations of the Company, including Thea Energy’s Kearny, NJ headquarters
  • Manage company IT assets including infrastructure, security, networks, systems, software, licenses, and user access
  • Define, implement, and maintain IT and security policies and procedures including training materials
  • Maintain reliable and scalable data management and backup
  • Manage IT-related tasks including new employee onboarding and logistics
  • Identify areas for process improvement and efficiency enhancement
  • Implement automation and new technologies to minimize repetitive tasks and allow yourself and the company to focus on the real task at hand -- putting fusion energy on the grid
  • Collaborate across multiple departments and end user functional groups to ensure smooth operations and integration
  • Coordinate with finance and operations teams for procurement, contracts, and forecasting
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team across various technical projects to maintain efficient operations
  • Engage with stakeholders across the Company to identify IT needs and ensure delivery of scalable technology solutions
  • Develop relationships with key IT vendors and service providers, negotiate contracts, and manage external relationships
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive information security and IT risk management program to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of Company information and technology
  • Ensure compliance with relevant IT governance and data protection laws, policies, and best practices
  • Manage IT audits and compliance checks

Ideal Experience & Skillsets:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of IT leadership experience
  • Experience as an IT administrator for Microsoft Azure (SharePoint, InTune, etc.), Linux, and Mac systems
  • Experience across IT infrastructure, administration, security, networks, systems, software, and user access management
  • Experience with technical, engineering, and scientific platforms (Siemens NX, Atlassian, etc.)
  • Experience leading and delivering complex IT projects
  • Experience implementing and managing IT security and compliance
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-171 compliance
  • Strong understanding of cloud / HPC computing architectures and deployment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to innovate, execute, and flourish in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional work ethic

  • Team player who is excited to help others
  • Ability to occasionally lift objects up to 50 lbs
