About Treehouse

Treehouse is an electrical contractor committed to accelerating the decarbonization of the places we live and work. By operating as a centralized, end-to-end partner, Treehouse helps companies scale electrification programs and delivers seamless, delightful installation experiences for customers.

About the Role

This role is ideal for a highly skilled Journeyman Electrician who is ready to move beyond the field and into design and enablement. The Electrical Design Lead is responsible for ensuring the electrical scope of every project is technically sound, code-compliant, and ready for execution. This role provides scoping oversight, supports pre-sale technical review, and helps prepare every job for a smooth, high-quality install. The ideal candidate combines deep field knowledge with design aptitude and strong communication skills to bridge gaps between design, scoping, and delivery.

Responsibilities

The Electrical Design Lead will:

  • Provide technical design and scoping support by reviewing complex project scopes to ensure feasibility and compliance, supporting project scoping escalations, and creating or advising on diagrams and layout recommendations in partnership with drafters and permit designers
  • Act as the technical partner to sales by clarifying edge-case designs and customer constraints before proposal finalization, providing fast, high-confidence answers to questions on installation approach, and flagging risky or non-standard conditions early to prevent installation delays
  • Provide permitting and plan set guidance by reviewing permit plan sets for accuracy, providing field-informed feedback to improve diagram quality and jurisdictional alignment, and partnering with the Head Electrician and permitting team on AHJ-specific requirements or technical justifications
  • Provide support to installation teams by reviewing projects for completeness before handoff to installation operations and collaborating with install operations to flag projects that may require field reverification or Master Electrician input
  • Serve as knowledge management expert by creating technical FAQs, reference guides, and installation readiness checklists and contributing to scoping libraries and internal playbooks with field-proven best practices
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of installation process, tools and procedures by identifying opportunities for simplification and standardization, gaps in scoping logic and repeat issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful Electrical Design Lead candidates will demonstrate:

  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician certification with at least 5 years hands-on residential experience
  • Knowledge and experience with NEC and the ability to interpret code for real-world scenarios
  • Experience working in a software-based environment, including comfortable use of G-suite and/or Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

Additionally, successful Electrical Design Lead candidates may demonstrate:

  • Experience in a startup or high-growth tech company environment
  • 10 + years of hands-on residential experience, ideally in L2 EV charging, service upgrades, load management, and smart panels
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Comfort and experience reviewing phots, plans, and scopes in digital systems (HubSpot, Dropbox, Figma, etc)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical teammates and customers
  • Strong attention to detail, but never at the the cost of slowing things down
