Position Overview

Summary: As Maintenance and PLC Technician, you will be responsible for daily preventative maintenance on the manufacturing equipment including robotics, PLC’s, electrical, mechanical, pneumatics, and hydraulics, as well as support facility maintenance. Responsibility includes responding to, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment breakdowns to reduce equipment downtime. Equipment installation projects on new and existing production lines and ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of our machinery to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure that safety is a primary focus, and that all potential risks are reduced to as low as reasonably achievable through regular review and update of safety procedures based on suggestions, near misses, incidents and new developments.
  • Strive to continuously improve production processes through predictive and preventative maintenance.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on machinery, including troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Conduct inspections to identify potential problems and proactively address them to prevent equipment failure.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical components, such as motors, switches, sensors, and PLC inverters.
  • Install, calibrate, and program PLC inverters to optimize machine performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement machine upgrades and modifications.
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, including parts replacements and repairs.
  • Support and address facility maintenance and expansion project needs.
  • Follow safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Foster people development through mentoring and sharing knowledge with others.
  • Identify major cost drivers within the machine maintenance.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor inventory levels to maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in manufacturing.
  • Confirm compliance with required certifications or reporting.
  • Follow company rules and guidelines.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

The Maintenance and PLC Technician role requires a combination of mechanical and electrical expertise, leadership skills, and a proactive mindset.

Technical proficiency: A solid understanding of electrical systems, mechanical systems, and automation technology is essential. This includes knowledge of PLC programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations is also important.

PLC Programming: Proficiency in programming PLCs is crucial. This involves understanding ladder logic, function block diagrams, and structured text programming languages.

Mechanical Skills: Understanding mechanical systems, such as motors, drives, gears, and bearings, is important for maintaining and troubleshooting machinery.

Analytical Skills: Being able to analyze complex systems, interpret technical documentation, and identify potential improvements is valuable in this role.

Attention to Detail: Precision and accuracy are essential for working with intricate machinery and ensuring that systems operate correctly.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Clear communication is necessary for collaborating with other team members, conveying technical information, and documenting maintenance procedures. Effective communication is vital to train entry level team members. Strong interpersonal skills are also important for building relationships, resolving conflicts, and fostering collaboration across different teams.

Requires preparing backup plans in case the system fails and being prepared when an impending system failure is about to happen.

Requirements / Training And Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Technical diploma or certification in electrical/mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Maintenance and PLC Technician or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, including PLC inverters.
  • Strong understanding of industrial machinery and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and willingness to take on additional responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain a professional, positive attitude.
  • Must be able to successfully pass e-Verify background check.
  • Complete other duties/projects as required and/or assigned.


Compensation:

The compensation for the Maintenance and PLC Technician typically ranges from an hourly rate of $35 to $45 based on experience, skills, and qualifications. Those with more experience or specialized skills may be offered a higher salary within this range.
