About Urban Machine

We are a robotics startup based in Oakland, California, tackling the multi-billion dollar problem of construction and demolition waste. Every year, billions of dollars worth of lumber is landfilled simply because the cost of labor to sort and reuse is too high. Almost 25% of all landfill is generated by the construction industry! Our mission is to salvage the past to make for a more sustainable future in our built environment. We are doing this by applying cutting-edge robotics to salvage lumber and return it to the market as a valuable building material

What we're looking for

We are looking for a machine operator to join our team and run our robot that removes metal from reclaimed lumber. Our machines will be starting pilot projects in June and we are looking for an operator to join the team. Great opportunity for growth as the machine productivity improves you will have an opportunity to build and lead the team. This position requires a willingness to work in a field (job-site) environment with exposure to dust, mud, heat, sun, cold, noise, and other conditions common to a construction site.

Responsibilities

• Operate the reclaimed lumber cleaning machine
• Prepare material for feeding into the machine
• Load the machine by hand or with forklift
• Work with Engineers to improve machine performance

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED
• Multilingual English and Spanish
• Experience operating manufacturing equipment
• Experience with working outside on construction sites, lumber yards, Material Recovery Facilities and industrial environments
• Experience with reclaiming lumber or working in the lumber industry is a big plus
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized work, and adhere to safe work practices
• Computer experience with Google Docs, gmail or equivalent

Travel

The machine will move around to different pilot sites around the Bay Area. First one is in American Canyon, Second and third one will be in San Jose. Each pilot will last 1 to 2 months.

Compensation

$30-$40/hr
Non exempt- qualifies for overtime
