Itron, Inc. is a U.S. public company dedicated to transforming how utilities and cities manage energy and water. We are seeking a Senior Accountant – External Reporting to support the preparation, analysis, and integrity of financial statements, external reports, and SEC filings. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams and external auditors to ensure accurate, timely, and transparent reporting while continuously improving processes through innovation and the thoughtful use of technology, including AI where applicable.
This role requires strong professional judgment, attention to detail, accountability in handling sensitive information, and the agility to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and review of SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other required external reports, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency for investors and customers.
  • Support the preparation of earnings releases, proxy statements, sustainability reporting, and census reporting with a customer‑centric and compliant mindset.
  • Prepare and maintain clean, accurate, and complete supporting workpapers that demonstrate accountability and audit readiness.
  • Assist with cash flow statement preparation and related analysis.
  • Gather, analyze, and summarize financial data to support management decision-making and external reporting.
  • Serve as a system administrator for Workiva and PFX systems, contributing to continuous improvement and innovative use of reporting technology.
  • Act as a liaison between external auditors and internal teams, including support for control walkthroughs and Sarbanes‑Oxley testing.
  • Assist in annual goodwill impairment reviews and quarterly/annual pension reviews.
  • Coordinate the collection, validation, and reporting of quarterly certifications.
  • Support research, documentation, and application of technical accounting and SEC reporting matters with professional skepticism and integrity.
  • Assist with accounting considerations related to acquisitions, dispositions, and valuations as needed.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships across finance and the broader business through proactive communication and authentic partnership.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience, including exposure to financial reporting, external reporting, or audit-related activities.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and apply sound professional judgment.
  • Demonstrated accountability, objectivity, and integrity when working with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in an agile, deadline-driven environment.
  • Clear, effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with financial systems and advanced Excel-based analysis.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Public accounting and/or SEC reporting experience.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Experience with Workiva and XBRL tagging.
  • Familiarity with Oracle or similar ERP systems and Essbase / SmartView reporting tools.
  • Strong planning, organization, and project management capabilities.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, including interest in leveraging automation or AI to enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally in a collaborative, technology-enabled environment within a regulated industry.
